Keep up the good work

While we’ve seen an encouraging drop in the number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall, public health guidance has not changed: we must continue to stay home to save lives. This guidance will remain in place until at least the end of March.

The Government has presented a roadmap for exiting lockdown gradually over the coming months, but this plan can only become reality of we continue to play our part as a community and stick to the guidelines.

We've made such progress, let's not let ourselves and each other down now.

Census 2021

With census packs now hitting doormats, we’re encouraging Cornwall residents to identify themselves as Cornish in the census if that’s how they feel.

You can do this by ticking the box marked ‘other’ under the nationality, ethnicity and language questions and then writing or typing in ‘Cornish’.

Cornish will also be referenced in the Census 2021 online form guidance as an example of a national identity that can be entered by selecting the ‘other’ option.

If you have received your pack and code form the ONS, you don’t have to wait until 21 March. You can go online and complete the census now.

Do you CE the signs of exploitation?

As part of our fight against child exploitation, we’ve joined together with our partners from ‘Our Safeguarding Children Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’ (OSCP) to launch the next phase of our exploitation awareness campaign #CETHESIGNS.

We’re reaching out to all secondary school-aged children and young people from across Cornwall – and their family members and friends –to highlight the dangers of exploitation. We want to make sure that everyone knows the signs to watch out for, and importantly, who to turn to for help, support and advice if something’s not right.

We’re asking you to join forces with us to help to spread the word on the dangers of exploitation. Please, take a look at our website to make sure you know the signs and ways to report concerns, share our social media posts and use the free resources provided.

Remember, if you’re worried about a child or young person, you can speak confidentially to our Children’s Services Team (also called MARU) on 0300 123 1116 during the day or 01208 251 300 after 5pm and at weekends. Always dial 999 in an emergency.

For more information on the campaign, or to download any of our free resources, please visit the OSCP’s webpages.

Green Month

We're getting together with Pirate FM during March for 'Green Month' and we're encouraging everyone to think about how they can do things differently to help tackle Climate Change. Cornwall’s carbon footprint is 4 million tonnes and it needs to be seven times smaller to help Cornwall become Carbon Neutral.

Many of us are now working from home as standard, so the opportunity is there to make changes that are beneficial for the future of Cornwall.

As part of Green Month, we're encouraging more young people to get involved in our Youth Ambassadors Network.

The network gives you the chance to tell us what environmental issues matter most to you.
