Reminder: Online ROP Poster Fair

Don’t miss today’s showcase of 80+ undergraduate Arts & Science Research Opportunities Program (ROP) projects completed during the Fall/Winter 2020–21 academic year. Open to all U of T faculty, staff and students, participants can browse the projects and talk to student presenters about their research. Same-day registrants are welcome! (Passcode: research). Chair Search for the Department of Earth Sciences — Committee Membership and Call for Nominations

An Advisory Search Committee has been appointed to recommend a Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences. The input of faculty, staff and students is critical for the success of the selection process. Nominations for the Chair should be sent by March 25, 2021 via ESS Chair Search Nominations. Questions regarding the Chair search should be directed to Daniela Trapani.

Nowruz Celebration 2021

Join Dean Melanie Woodin for the inaugural Nowruz celebration hosted by the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies, featuring a performance by renowned Iranian-born poet, playwright and literary translator, Sholeh Wolpé, and Iranian-born musician, Sahba Motallebi. Registration is required. A Zoom link will be emailed the day of the event. U of T’s Human Resources & Equity has provided more information about Nowruz and other celebrations and traditions observed by many across our community.

Mitacs Information Sessions & Internships

  • Information Sessions: Faculty members will learn how Mitacs funding can accelerate research programs and create excellent opportunities for trainees. Both sessions will have speakers from Mitacs and U of T presenting the programs, how to apply and more. Register and submit your questions to the speakers and panelists. Contact: Glaucia Lima.

Call for Proposals: Jackman Humanities Institute Program for the Arts

The Jackman Humanities Institute Program for the Arts supports a range of small (up to $3,000) to larger (up to $10,000) events designed to enhance, improve and raise the profile of the arts at the University of Toronto.

Teaching & Learning Community of Practice Session

Join us for “Supporting First Year Students: Lessons from Computer Science,” and hear Professors David Liu and Mario Badr discuss the initial outcomes of their engagement and community building activities, and showcase initiatives such as their summer preparation modules, start-of-term “meet and greet,” and course-level advising process for students. 2021 Arbor Awards Call for Nominations

The Arbor Awards annually recognize alumni and friends of U of T for their sustained volunteer service to the University. Faculty and staff are invited to nominate individuals who have made valuable volunteer contributions to U of T. Nominations close on April 16, 2021.

Review of the University-Mandated Leave of Absence Policy

The Provost is initiating a review of the University-Mandated Leave of Absence Policy led by Professor Donald Ainslie, Department of Philosophy, and includes Varsha Patel, Assistant Dean of Student Success and Career Support, UTSC. All members of the University community are invited to submit their feedback on the policy.

VPRI Launches New Excellence in Service Feedback Form

The Division of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation has launched an Excellence in Service Feedback Form to capture feedback from the U of T research and innovation community (faculty and librarians, research personnel and administrative staff) about their satisfaction with VPRI’s services and supports. U of T researchers and staff are invited to provide feedback after interactions with VPRI for support or service (UTORid required). This feedback will inform VPRI’s operational and strategic planning and will feed into business process evaluation and refinement.

Intellectual Property (IP) Education Program: New Module Launched

U of T's IP Education Program is a free online program that provides students, faculty and staff with a foundation in intellectual property and its general applications in today’s knowledge economy. The new Level 2 module — IP Strategy and Application — delivers a series of special topics, ranging from IP strategy and commercialization to IP best practices for inventors and entrepreneurs.
