Rhondda Foodbank:

This foodbank has a collection only service. Please contact the relevant wellbeing coordinator to be issued a food voucher code, that can be taken to relevant foodbank for collection of a parcel.

Play Yard

Canolfan Pentre

Open every weekday from 9:30am until 10:30am for the following: food waste, dog, recycling bags. Also available 10am to 11am: food support. Things are tough at the moment and they understand that some people may be finding things a little difficult. They are here to help. You can collect a food crisis parcel to help. ANDYSMANCLUB

Meets every Monday 7 to 9pm except bank holidays. They provide peer to peer support for any man over 18 where you can go and get things off your chest in a non-judgemental environment. This can be online or face to face and any man wanting to attend would need to email info@andysmanclub.co.uk to be sent an online form as well as the location before attending so they can monitor the size of groups and keep men covid safe.

Arts Factory, Rhondda Fach: 

Health and wellbeing information 
Community health and wellbeing groups:
Their health and wellbeing group sessions have now moved to online Zoom sessions. These will take place on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The group is suitable for all ages and abilities and will include activities such as gentle exercises, arts and crafts, group games, coffee mornings and guest speakers. Cupboard essential food bags:
They are offering low-cost food cupboard essential hampers for £8 delivered to anyone who wishes to purchase one. There is no qualifying criteria.  

The hampers will include store cupboard essentials, a stew pack, six apples and half a dozen eggs. These can be requested by contacting 01443 757954 or via Arts Factory Facebook messenger.

They are also providing a limited number of free Fareshare food parcels to people within the Rhondda community who are struggling financially. Requests for the parcels can be made on a Monday by contacting 01443 757954 or via Facebook messenger.

Rhondda Foodbank vouchers for the community in the Rhondda are also still being issued via telephone Monday to Friday. Please contact Arts Factory on 01443 757954.
 
Support and wellbeing: 
Each week Arts Factory staff are contacting all volunteers and group members via, telephone calls, text messages, video calls and Facebook messages to offer support. They are also reaching out to members of the Rhondda community to get in touch if they need support, advice or guidance as we are able to help in a variety of ways. This support includes assistance with debt, housing and benefit issues, mental health support, signposting, COVID-19 related support and help dealing with loneliness and isolation. The Bryncynon Strategy/Feel Good Factory: Ynysyboeth

Their listening project is now using a Meals on Wheels service where they provide subsidised meals to older people locally who are struggling and isolated.

The project will also provide a support line. They will periodically contact those who need it to ensure they are safe and have a friendly voice they can talk to or receive advice on what other services they may require.

The project is aimed at individuals in the Lower Cynon Valley over the age of 60. If you feel that you or someone you know could benefit from this project we would love to hear from you.

They are initially registering people's interest and will provide further information once they have the correct volunteering structure for the project in place.

Across Rhondda Cynon Taf

Win a £10 voucher for taking part in a shielding survey

People advised to shield have faced several challenges in lockdown. Many have not left the house since March 2020. To learn more about their experiences of shielding, we’ve commissioned the Bevan Foundation to speak to people in Rhondda Cynon Taf who:
  • have been advised to shield
  • are self-shielding
  • are supporting someone who is shielding

Barod’s Live Webchat Service 

Barod operate a Live Webchat Service that is available to anyone affected by substance use, 7-days a week throughout Wales. The Live Webchat Service is the first of its kind in Wales for substance use and allows those affected by substance use, and professionals, to gain immediate access to a trained support worker. Those that access the service can get information about their services, instant harm reduction advice relating to drug and alcohol use, and gain support for their own substance use. Those affected by a loved ones drug and alcohol use can also access the live webchat and gain support.

Referrals to all of their services are accepted via their Live Webchat, whether that be a self-referral or one made by a professional. (Referrals can be taken Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Fridays 9am to 4.30pm). 

The Live Webchat Service is available via Barod’s website https://barod.cymru/ and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm and on Saturday and Sunday’s 10am to 4pm. 
 

Over 50s Alcohol Helpline 

This is a UK-wide Over 50s Alcohol helpline run in partnership with Barod, We Are With You and Inspire NI. It is a confidential service available to anyone over 50 who has concerns about their drinking. The helpline is also available to anyone worried about a person or a loved one over 50 and their drinking. Their expert advisors are all trained, experienced alcohol workers. They can offer:
  • advice about alcohol’s impact on your health as you get older
  • tips for cutting down
  • help finding other support
  • structured, brief intervention sessions
The helpline is open 7-days a week, 12pm to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sundays. It can be called on 0808 801 0750. Alternatively, anyone wishing to access this service can book a phone call or a video chat at a time that suits them, via Barod’s website https://barod.cymru/over-50s-alcohol-helpline/

DANGOS

3-hour long session via Zoom 
The Dangos website gives more details and allows people to register individually for sessions. The website is at www.dangos.wales and www.dangos.cymru. Dangos aims to increase the knowledge and awareness about the availability of help for frontline workers. That is people who are in day-to-day contact, whether paid or voluntary, with families who might need extra help. 
 

Storytelling

Are you interested in learning how to tell a story in an exciting and informative way and hear about the stories of others? Then come and join University of South Wales to exchange stories of origin and stories of destination in an online workshop starting April 2021. You will develop information into a narrative, develop your confidence, and develop your storytelling and public speaking technique. Getting through together

These are one-hour peer support sessions provided through Social Care Wales, Age Cymru, Care Forum Wales and Hospice of the Valleys on the 18 and 25 March 2021 (online). The monthly sessions provide a confidential safe space that aims to help anyone in care who has experienced grief, bereavement or loss during the pandemic. Be Active, The ‘Great Escape’

This aims to improve our physical and mental health by connecting us with our natural environment through outdoor healthy activities. Mindfulness allows us to slow down, notice our surroundings and reduce our stress levels. EPP Time4me are continuing to run Self-Management Courses in Chronic Pain, Pre Diabetes, and Health and Wellbeing virtually through Microsoft Teams commencing in April 2021. Age Connects 

Age Connects Morgannwg has been fortunate in securing a pot of funding to deliver tailored information and advice services to people who have received a diagnosis of dementia, their families or carers. They are dedicating Wednesday every week to deliver this service. Information and advice can be offered via the telephone, virtually via zoom, teams etc. or via a home visit (following pandemic guidance) if other options are not suitable.

The information and advice will be tailored to the needs of the individual, ranging from claiming relevant benefits through to power of attorney depending what is needed. To book an appointment, call 01443 490650, or if you would like more information please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Take the first steps towards changing your life in a self-reliant group with Purple Shoots. Volunteering Matters

Walk and talk over 50’s.

This is a new online group for men and women over 50 in RCT who enjoy walking and talking. Share walks, photos, health benefit tips and make new friends. Join the weekly zoom coffee and chat group. It will start in early April. Sign up now for a free pedometer.  

Online Chair exercise for over 50’s

New online group for women and men over 50 who are looking to exercise from home. It's great for strengthening muscles and joints, and improving balance and mobility. It will take place every Tuesday at 11am.
