Meet Johannes Schmied!

Johannes Schmied
Help us welcome our new administrative specialist to the School of Education, Johannes Schmied! Here is a bit about him:

I have been at UWSP since June 2019. Initially as UWSP’s international student adviser and most recently also as academic adviser at the UWSP at Wausau campus. Prior to that I was working for several years at UW-Oshkosh as an immigration compliance coordinator and international enrollment management coordinator. Before 2015 I had been several roles at two Austrian universities as project manager/project coordinator. Austria is also the place I was born and grew up and where I received my graduate degree in Environmental System Science with an emphasis in Business Administration. In my free time I enjoy bicycling, traveling, camping, hiking, canoeing and currently building snow mountains for my daughter. I am married and my wife and I are expecting a baby within the next month.

Master’s Comprehensive Portfolios

Portfolio Format and Due Dates

The portfolio can be submitted as a Google Doc or as a Google Site, but it is imperative that these links are made public so they can be shared with the UWSP faculty and staff who will need to access your work. You can do this by getting a sharable link that will allow anyone with that link to access your Google Doc or Google Site and selecting the “Anyone with the link can view” option. For directions on getting this set up click here. Your portfolio should be complete and shared with the director of the master’s program during the last semester/term of coursework. Fall submissions are due by Nov. 1, and spring submissions are due by April 1.

Portfolio Review Process

Once your comprehensive portfolio is submitted, it is reviewed by graduate faculty within the School of Education. You will receive feedback on your work via an email evaluation form. You can expect to receive this within 1 month after the submission deadline. If you are requested to make revisions, you will need to resubmit your updated portfolio for a final review prior to degree completion. Completion of your final semester coursework and satisfactory/passing portfolio review will be your final program requirements. Degrees are then conferred within the month following your final enrolled term.

Updated Artifact and Outcome Alignment Spreadsheet

Many courses in the master’s program include assignments that may be utilized as artifacts for your portfolio. For a recently updated list of UWSP courses and artifact examples, click here. You can also find this document in the Master’s Comprehensive Portfolio Guidebook and in the Current Student Resources section of the website.

Graduation

Graduation

2021 Spring Commencement Registration

Graduates, please register by the end of the day on April 2 if you would like to participate in the spring commencement ceremony. To log in and complete the registration, please visit the graduation tile located on your accesSPoint homepage.

Applying to Graduate

You should apply to graduate at least one full semester prior to your final term so that you can conduct a graduation audit, and address any issues, prior to your final registration term. If you apply during your final term, it may be too late to add a class if you are deficient in some area. Applying late in your final term may also mean that your name will not be on lists of graduating students, including the printed commencement ceremony program. It is your responsibility to make sure all the requirements for your degree are complete, so make sure to take care of this in a timely fashion. It is also important to note that all transfer of credit or extension forms must also be completed prior to applying to graduate to ensure conferral of your degree.

Commencement Ceremony

You are invited to attend the commencement ceremony held the semester in which you graduate. Because there is no summer commencement, August candidates are invited to attend the May ceremony. Likewise, winterim candidates are invited to attend the December ceremony. Attendance at commencement is optional and does not mean you have been approved to graduate. A decision about the method and location of the ceremony will be announced by the university around Spring Break.

Cap and Gown

Graduates who wish to participate in the ceremony are required to wear a black cap and gown. Caps, gowns, tassels, hoods and honor cords are available for purchase at the University Store in the Dreyfus University Center. Visit the University Store for pricing. Additional information on tassel color, hood color or sashes click here. If you are outside the Stevens Point area (student teaching or online student, etc.) and unable to pick up your items, you may have them shipped to you. To place your order, call the University Store at 715-346-3431.
