Grace Schlossnagel Shindle, 99, claimed her baptismal promise on Thursday, February 25, 2021, one and a half hours before her 100th birthday.  Although a longtime resident of Chambersburg, PA, she lived for the past few years in Flower Mound, TX.

Grace was born on February 26, 1921 in the community of Cove, near Accident, MD, to Margaret Ann and Milton Schlossnagel.  She graduated high school as valedictorian of her class and shortly thereafter entered college.  During World War II, she moved to Waynesboro, PA, where she worked and volunteered at the USO.  Following the war, she married Robert on July 16, 1949, and the couple moved to Chambersburg, PA, where they resided for over 60 years.

Grace had many callings and interests over her lifetime. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.  She embraced the Lutheran faith all her life, serving in numerous roles as Bible teacher, choir member, and council president at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Grace was an avid reader; she enjoyed a career employed in several libraries including Wilson College and Penn State, Mont Alto campus.  She loved and supported music, volunteering for many years as secretary for the Chambersburg Community Concert Association.  Grace also yearned to travel; she and Robert traveled throughout the country and the world.  Additional hobbies included stamp and antique collecting.

Grace was preceded in death on March 8, 2016 by her husband of 66 years Robert Franklin Shindle, as well as by her parents, brother Merle McClintock, and sister Reba Frazee.

She is survived by her daughter Katherine S. Barnard and son-in-law Brooks W. Barnard, of Flower Mound, TX, and by her grandson Benjamin S. Barnard of Lewisville, TX.

A Celebration of Life Worship will honor Grace at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church, 6000 Morriss Road, Flower Mound, TX  75028.  The Rev. Rusty Sullivan will preside.  Additionally, the service will be livestreamed for a simultaneous celebration at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA  17201, with the Rev. Jane Nicholson presiding.  An interment service will be held on a future date in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac Street, Waynesboro, PA  17225.

To honor her life well-lived, memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, PA at the address noted above.

Condolences and memories may be shared on her tribute wall at www.flowermoundfuneralhome.com.
