Hello Beloved Friends,

Well, that was the most fun I've had in a very long time! Peace Through Music was such a sweet event! The weather was perfect and the music was groovy! And I must say, there is nothing quite like making music with musicians of such extraordinary talent. Thanks to my sweetheart, Matt, and my dear friend Lois Chambers, I actually have a video to share with you!

Harramt Ahebak

Harramt Ahebak, was made famous years ago by a lovely middle-eastern singer named Warda Al Jazairia. She was world renowned for her artistry and nuance and was considered a diva of Arabic song. Even though this is a "pop" song, it is rich with vibrant cultural colors. I learned it especially for this event and studied it in fine detail, thanks to the ability to slow YouTube down to half speed! The scale, maqam shanaz, is different than anything in western music as is the microtonal intonation, ornamentation and expression. The language is arabic, which is also still quite new to me.
