Thursday Note from
The Mastery School of Hawken

March 4, 2021

In these final two weeks before spring break, the building is buzzing with thoughtful conversation and reflection as each student's Red Thread journey takes shape.

In a not-so-stunning turn of events, the Winter Progress Checks have been as generative and gratifying as we'd hoped. They're giving us a great chance to listen to students reflect on their experiences so far and to plan what's ahead of them.

We're truly inspired and thrilled by their goals and ambitions, and we're excited to support them starting with new Micro modules that will launch after spring break.

Stay tuned and be sure to ask about these Progress Checks at home!

Special Schedules Wednesday 3.10 and Thursday 3.11

Be sure to mark your calendars! We have a special schedule Wednesday, March 10. We will meet in person and the campus will close  at 3:00 so faculty and staff can receive their second shot of the Covid vaccine.

As you may have seen in the communication from Scott Looney, the Gates Mills, Lyndhurst, and University Circle campuses of Hawken will be operating remotely on Thursday, March 11 in anticipation of possible reactions to the second dose. We will meet in person on Friday before heading off for spring break.

It will be really nice when we're past all of this, won't it?

Where Are the News and Events?

The News and Events section on Mastery School website is specifically for Mastery School families. That's where you'll find the calendar, blog posts, and the Thursday Notes archive. We had to remove it from the "About" section, but you can still find it in the footer. We hope it has what you need. If not, send us a note at mastery@hawken.edu.

Congrats to These Mastery School Students

We are so excited for these Mastery School students:
  • Mo and Ella in Hawken Players' Society's staging of Songs for a New World, live streaming tomorrow. More information here!
  • Zayd who qualified for States in Hawken's Speech and Debate team.
  • Brie who won the Hack-a-Thon sponsored by the Fowler Center of Case Western Reserve University.

Mastery Students and Women’s History Month

MSH Students have begun commemorating women leaders and history makers through a poster campaign, and have more planned through Spring Break. Mark your calendar: Monday, March 8 is International Women’s DayPhotos forthcoming!

We're Looking for New Team Members

The Mastery School of Hawken is looking to expand its faculty and to build programs with local partners, including a potential Gap Year program. We’re looking for creative, collaborative, entrepreneurial adults who love to work with young people, engage in real-world challenges, and redesign systems. Know someone who’d be great? Please pass this along to them.

Highlight of the Week

Each week, we find one glittering jewel to share among the pile of glittering jewels. This week's highlight: Students in Mr. O'Connor's Painting Micro Flex are creating beautiful watercolors and impressionistic pieces. We're hoping for the first Mastery School gallery soon!
