March monthly LSC meeting: Tuesday March 9 at 6:00pm.

This meeting will be held virtually, and if you are attending the meeting only as an observer, you will participate via the YouTube live stream.

There will be a community chat/discussion function on YouTube, which the council will make an effort to monitor. The stream will have closed captioning in Spanish.

The agenda will be available at least 48 hours in advance in our Public folder under the meeting date (e.g. 2021-03-09)

If you plan to speak at the meeting during public participation time, please sign up in advance here. The sign-up sheet will remain open until 6:10pm on the day of the meeting. Speakers will have three minutes per person unless arranged in advance. (Speakers will join the Google Meet.)

If you can’t attend, but want to submit a comment for the record, please email it to: jonescollegepreplsc@gmail.com by 6pm on March 9th.

And, if you can’t make the meeting time, the recording of the meeting will be archived and available for later viewing via the LSC website Documents tab via this list in our Public folder. In addition, minutes from the previous meeting are approved at the next meeting and are then made publicly available as well.

LSC Committees now meeting

The three standing committees of the Jones LSC are now meeting regularly: Budget, Equity and Health and Safety. You can be an active participant in a committee whether you are a permanent member or a regular attendee.

Please contact the chair if you’d like to be involved in the committee. Find descriptions of each committee’s purview here. Meeting dates are posted on the Jones website as well as the LSC’s Instagram and Facebook feeds.

Recap of February monthly meeting
At the January meeting, the LSC heard from three student leaders from the Black Coalition, Cole Francis, R’riyon Draine and Railey Montgomery. (The Black Coalition is made up of three Jones student orgs: the Black Student Union, the Natural Hair Club and Black Leaders and Mentors.) They released a open letter on 2.2.2021 to the Jones administration, teachers, peers, and community at large “To Be Black at Jones: An Open Letter to Further the Racial Conversation,” describing the lived experience of Black students at Jones and also calling on the school to take four concrete steps to improve the quality of that experience.

The LSC also heard reports from Assistant Principal Mr. Mitchell with an update on the Equity initiatives being undertaken at Jones and from Mr. Coleman, the head of the Counseling Department, about supports for students in the senior class.

Resumen de la reunión mensual de Febrero

En la reunión de Febrero, la LSC escuchó a tres estudiantes líderes de la Coalición Negra, Cole Francis, R’riyon Draine y Railey Montgomery. La Coalición Negra está formada por tres organizaciones estudiantiles de Jones: La Unión de Estudiantes Negros, el Club de Cabello Natural y Líderes y Mentores Negros. Ellos publicaron una carta abierta en 2.2.2021 a la administración Jones, maestros, compañeros y la comunidad en general “Para Ser Negro en Jones: Una Carta Abierta para Promover la Conversación Racial”, describiendo las experiencias vivida de los estudiantes Negros en Jones y también pidiendo a la escuela que tome cuatro pasos concretos para mejorar la calidad de esa experiencia.

La LSC también escuchó informes del Subdirector Sr. Mitchell con una actualización sobre las iniciativas de Equidad que se están llevando a cabo en Jones y del Sr. Coleman, jefe del Departamento de Consejería, sobre el apoyo a los estudiantes de la clase superior.
