Message from Mr. Jonathan
(Assistant Prinicpal)
Hi Dixon family,

This past Wednesday I had the opportunity to go visit Studio Be in the Bywater and see the work of our Academic Readiness teammate Hannah Johnson-Wilson. I am always so honored and inspired to see how ISL staff and families are contributing to our community it’s here in New Orleans. I would like to encourage everyone to visit the space and see her piece. If there are any ways that you and yours are reaching out to your community, please let us know! Ms Catalian and I would love to place it in our TidBits newsletter.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend,
MEET YOUR STAFF 2020

Did you know ISL has 213 employees representing 33 different countries and speaking 23 different languages? Pretty amazing!

Each week, we take the opportunity to feature staff members and thank them for everything they do for our ISL community! Take a moment to read a little more about each of our staff members in this feature on our official ISL Facebook page!

Contribute ideas and skills for Family Engagement
Are you interested in joining our work around Family Engagement?

We're looking for parents or guardians to give input on ISL's Family Engagement efforts and activities. Volunteers should be willing to participate in 2-3 planning sessions outside of school hours, able to consider what is best for all families and students (rather than a specific family or situation), and eager to contribute positively to the ISL community.

If you're interested, please email Lucia Hammer lhammer@isl-edu.org .
The first session will take place mid-March.
Message from the Transportation Office
Parents are asked not to park on Marks Street for dismissal beginning at 2:30 pm.  It is imperative to wait for ALL SCHOOL BUSES TO LEAVE before parking in those spaces.  This ensures the safety of our students and staff.

HELPING ADULTS EARN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
At ISL, we believe in providing a challenging education and take community responsibility seriously. It is a big part of our mission and a force that drives our work.

One of the ways we continue growing as an organization to become better educators and supporters to our students is by staying on top of the latest research, professional development, and community resources. In February, we shared the
"Talk about Race and Racism with your Child" information and invitation to the family workshops. Last week, we shared the "Supporting Your Child at Home" resources and links. This week, we wanted to provide a community resource available for the adults in our ISL community who have not yet acquired their high school diploma. We hope you find this information helpful. Feel free to share with anyone who may be interested.

Science at ISL
On Wednesday, March 10th, we met Ms. Karen Marshall at the Uptown Campus to find out more about the current project with our community partner- Coastal Roots. Click here to hear more about what our students are learning at ISL and how they are becoming more involved with local environmental needs.

We will be sharing a science feature in the coming weeks to share some more activities and details about science education at ISL. Be on the lookout for this information!
Message from the Nurse

Greet Parents,

I wanted to thank you all for working so closely with us this year in keeping our students safe and healthy. Please everyone, keep notifying us of any child with symptoms, exposure, and or any pending COVID tests. I know everyone is becoming very tired of all things COVID but please continue to keep us updated. As the city opens up more and more we must stay vigilant. Feel free to call or email with any questions or concerns. I am happy to direct on what to do next.

Sincerely,
