Hi, all, and happy Friday,

I'm multi-tasking at the moment, as it's the first Friday of the month, and I'm at the South Coast Air Quality Management District meeting making public comment.

As such, I'll keep this brief. Our calls are, as always, really important, so let's make them before we take the weekend off, if we plan to do so.

If you are able and willing to help us get Katrina Foley over the finish line (election day is TUESDAY!), I will be at this phonebank Saturday, and this one Sunday. I'd love your help. WE CAN WIN if we do the work.

Otherwise thanks for all you do, and have a great weekend!

Call Your Senators
(find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:

First, I understand the House recently passed Adam Schiff's Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act. I support pretty much all bills that preserve our wild spaces, and I strongly support this one. I trust and hope the Senator will as well.

Second, I want the Senator to support President Biden's American Rescue Act, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and S1, the For the People Act. These bills are all critically important and need to be passed quickly. [If Dem add:] And I 100% support abolishing the filibuster in order to do it. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:

First, I support H.R. 842, the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, and urge you to vote in favor of the bill when it comes before the House this week. The PRO Act would make common-sense changes to existing law to enable workers who want to organize and form unions to do so. It's critically important.

Second, has the Congressmember yet co-sponsored HR 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021? [If so thank. If not ask that they do and tell them why gun violence concerns you].
Extra Credit

This past Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 1 - The For The People Act--the most important voting rights bill in U.S. history! Now it heads to the Senate. In keeping with their 'For the People Act" advocacy, Big Tent USA has created Vote Forward-type letters to send to all 50 Republican Senators (they may add a few Dems...) in support of S1.

They have 2 letter campaigns:

1st Version: Just Print. Sign. Send.

2nd Version: Plenty of space to tell the Senators why YOU care about passing the "For The People Act."

Go here to get your templates. So cool!!

Something else
I don't often do this, but let's all call Senator Tom Cotton, who is singlehandledly holding up the nomination of Merrick Garland, and ask him to knock it off. We need an Attorney General, especially in light of the disturbing hints that members of Congress may have been involved in the January 6th insurrection.

I'm just going to say: "I'm calling as an American who is deeply worried about domestic terrorism, and horrified by the events of January 6th. We are still in danger, and I am really upset to learn that Senator Cotton is singlehandedly holding up the nomination of Merrick Garland to be confirmed as our Attorney General. Delay could cost lives, and I'm sure the Senator doesn't want to have those lives on his conscience. Please ask him to stop obstructing this confirmation. Thanks."

[to your Senators] [H/T]

Hi, I'm writing as a constituent to ask the Senator to make sure that Sen. Mitt Romney’s TRUST Act, which could endanger Social Security, is NOT included in the final COVID relief bill. It would circumvent legislative norms for changing Social Security and would allow cuts to be made to benefits without regard to how they would affect constituents who depend on them.

The amendment was voted into the Fiscal Year 2021 Budget as  S. Amdt. 803 to S. Con. Res. 5.

It's got to be removed. Despite Social Security’s role in providing seniors with baseline financial security, the TRUST Act does not require its “rescue committees” to consider the adequacy of current benefits — or the human impact of potential cuts. Retirees would be relegated to the status of figures on a balance sheet. This is not an acceptable outcome for our parents, grandparents, and friends who depend on their monthly Social Security checks.

As an amendment to the COVID relief bill, the TRUST Act would be a Trojan Horse to circumvent legislative norms for changing Social Security. The Congressional Budget Act and the Byrd Rule specifically prohibit any modifications to Social Security through budget reconciliation — the vehicle Democrats are using for COVID legislation. But the TRUST Act could sneak its way into law on the coattails of COVID relief. Don't let it happen! Thanks.

OK.
Talk tomorrow!
