Dear Friend,

Did you know that Vice President Kamala Harris was once a graduation speaker for the Summer Legal Fellowship Program? She inspired our graduates and the entire audience in the UC Berkeley School of Law Auditorium back in August of 2007, when she was San Francisco District Attorney.  Many other luminaries have graciously served as our keynote speakers over the years, including California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Retired Alameda County Superior Court Judge Brenda Harbin Forte, and California Supreme Court Justice Carol Corrigan.

Congratulations to CYDL’s Mock Trial students!

After five months of hard work, 18 CYDL students competed in the Contra Costa County High School Mock Trial competition, online!  Our two teams, from Kennedy High School and DeAnza High School in Richmond, received kudos from real judges for their persuasive argumentation, public speaking skills, and most importantly, teamwork. The teamwork was all the more impressive given that the students and coaches couldn’t even be in the same room together.

In one student’s words: “It was such a great experience competing and working on the case!  I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills from participating, such as analyzing problems and critically thinking.”

Thank you to our truly outstanding volunteer attorney coaches who made the Mock Trial Program possible! They are:
Andrew Baker                     Farrah Hussein                     Amy Resner
Donna Brorby                       Suzanne Mellard                      Gilbert Rivera
