Date: Tuesday, 16 March 2021
Time: 5:00pm - 6:30pm
Location: You can attend in person (Level 2, 95 Grenfell St, Adelaide) or online.

SafeWork SA Safety Awareness Campaign

SafeWork SA are launching a safety awareness campaign to reduce laceration injuries in workshops from 1 March 2021.

Injuries related to wounds, lacerations, amputations and/or organ damage represent one of the largest injury claim groups affecting the Fabricated Metal Production Industry sector.

Safety inspectors will visit a number of manufacturing businesses across the state to audit the safety control measures in place to protect workers.

ReturnToWorkSA and SafeWork Australia information reveals that within this sector:

  • injury claims have risen steadily in the past four years
  • 2018-19 saw a 17% increase in injury claims from the previous year
  • SafeWork Australia have defined the manufacturing industry sector in Australia as a national health and safety priority

Inspectors will be working together with businesses to ensure compliance with government and industry standards and WHS regulations are maintained.

Businesses must identify all hazards specific to their workplace, and have appropriate control measures in place to prevent or minimise the risk of harm to workers in the public.

People at Work

Digital tool launched across Australia

Australia’s only validated psychosocial risk assessment tool, People at Work, is up and running on a new free, digital platform thanks to work health and safety regulators and leading researchers.

Because every workplace is unique, a risk management process is required to identify psychosocial hazards, assess risks and implement strategies to control the risks. The risk management approach aligns with Safe Work Australia’s Code of Practice on How to manage work health and safety risks.

Workplaces have a duty to protect the psychological health of workers in the same way they protect their physical safety. People at Work helps organisations identify, assess and control risks to psychological health and safety.

The newly released digital platform enables organisations to:

  • self-administer the People at Work survey to their workers
  • add custom demographics like workgroups and roles
  • receive automated reporting with key breakdowns to identify high risk areas with recommended control measures, benchmarking, and guidance
