Early Years Newsletter 05.03.2021
Welcome to the Early Years Newsletter. We have decided to move the Early Years news to a Friday which you will receive in addition to the Monday whole school newsletter. We aim to provide you with more information, photographs and updates from the Early Years team.

Please enjoy reading about our events and what your child has been up to this week!
For those of you new to Ghyll Royd, please find attached our term dates for the year. Our nursery is open all year long except for Bank Holidays and for two weeks at Christmas.
We are looking forward to welcoming the school children back next week and have adapted the school drop off and pick up times to minimise the amount of cars in the car park at any one time.

Parents, please keep your speed to 5mph on school grounds, reverse into parking spaces and maintain social distancing when dropping off or collecting your child. Thank you for your co-operation.
The Daynurseries awards for 2021 are underway. They choose their top nurseries based on their review scores and we would be really grateful if you would submit your review of our pre-school and nursery!

You can submit your review by visiting the Daynurseries website.

Thank you in advance.
A big well done to Henry in Great Explorers who walked a whole marathon during the last lockdown!

Henry took part in a charity appeal to help make Christmas more magical for vulnerable families and children that are less fortunate by walking a marathon! He kept going despite the cold weather and rain and, together with a group of children, he has raised a gigantic total of £4085!! This amount helped provide toys, food and essential items for those in need locally.

Mum and Dad are so proud of him, and we are too! Mrs Johnson shared the news with the Great Explorers and Henry received a big round of applause from his friends!

What a superstar!

Little Adventurers

Last week Little Adventurers took a deep dive into the undergrowth to see what they could find in their garden! We then did some yoga and moved like the different creatures we found and thought of! We:

scuttled like a woodlouse,
fluttered like a butterfly,
slithered like a slug,
crept like a beetle,
wriggled like a worm,
danced liked a bee,
zoomed like a fly,
and spun like a spider!

This week we had lots of fun. Together we made a big group painting alongside our snail collages.

We made an obstacle course using the balance beams and rewarded our great balancing with a trip down the slide! Whoooosh!

We have also been blowing bubbles in the garden and this week we had a minibeast hunt around the grounds finding pictures of different creatures and talked about their features.

Once we found all the minibeasts, we needed to make them a home so we turned over the soil in the allotment plot to create a minibeast hotel, placing big leaves, rocks and logs in places to encourage wildlife. We will be checking back in with it next week!
Great Explorers

This week Great Explorers have enjoyed planting our own beans and our own vegetables. We talked about what we will see as they grow and are looking forward to seeing what happens.

We are enjoying our Music sessions with Mrs Coultas. Currently we are learning Spring songs and using the rainsticks, drums and maracas!

We have revised our first letters this week - s, a, t, p, i, n - and used the magic bag to sort and order our letters and match with images.

The children have also used the compare bears to match, count and sort.

We are hoping to walk down to the river next week, we will be making treats for our mummies and we will be starting our new letter!
Reception

Last week Reception started learning about Space and have loved telling us all facts that they know. We have been exploring all the different planets and have started making our own over the next few weeks. At home, Florence made play doh planets and Harrison made paper plate planets. Both cleverly lined them up in their order!

We enjoyed cosmic yoga, which was cosmic as we went to Space!
We have also begun to learn ‘time’ and timed ourselves how many things we could do in a minute.

In class, we have made gingerbread men but we were more interested in the eating rather than the decorating!!

Reception have also taken advantage of beautiful Spring like weather and enjoyed playing in the woods, the school grounds and the adventure playground and are looking forward to being a full class again this week!
Parent Park and Ride

We will be offering a free Parent Park and Ride service for parents of our Pre-School and School. Leave your car here and be driven to and from Burley-in-Wharfedale train station to get to work on time! For more information, visit our website.
