Newtown Festival is now on Sunday April 11th

The Newtown Festival team have been working hard transferring all the Festival plans to April. The outpouring of support and aroha from the many collaborators, stallholders and artists has been enormously encouraging.

Wellington City Council staff have rallied around, helping with the necessary permissions for road closures and licences - they have been extremely helpful and we owe them a big vote of thanks!
Fingers crossed for a covid-free April, and good weather on the 11th!

Most of the performers and stallholders you were looking forward to seeing today will be at the Festival in April. However some stalls  can't make it, so if you would like a space to sell your wares, or to promote your cause, email newtownfestival@gmail.com - they might be able to fit you in!
Newtown Hall - new mural design

Newtown artists Kerb and Spex, aka Andrew Tamati Wright and Sara Tamati, have created an indicative design for a replacement mural on the wall of the Newtown Community Hall on Daniell Street (where we have our meetings).

They plan to begin painting next weekend,13th and 14th March. Newtown Community and Cultural Centre  will organise a BBQ on Sunday 14th March from 12noon-2pm, so that would be a great time to go along, watch Kerb paint and chat to Sara about the mural.

Kerb grew up in Newtown in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. He lived on Daniell Street and moved into Te Ara Hou flats when they were built. This corner was where he played. There used to be a lumber yard that burned down, and kids played in the rubble. In the 70s the space was developed into an 'adventure playground', well before the present structures were built. Many of you will remember those days! The mural design  will reflect the deep connection to place that Kerb and Sara both have and will represent past, present and future.
