The Art of Swimming
Sue Ninham & Simone Tippett
When: end March to end May 2021.
Original w atercolours by Sue Ninham and monoprints by Simone Tippett. Sue and Simone started open water swimming together one wintery Sunday morning during Covid. The icy sea, air and fear momentarily snapped them out of the funk they were fighting. Every swim was different. Colour and light. Tidal currents. Sound, smell and swell. Creatures, large and small. With more and more swims, the funk has faded, wetsuits have been closeted and their creativity continues to fizz, swish and flow.
This exhibition is a celebration of the beauty found in the ocean, friendship and art.
Promenade Gallery: Flinders Medical Centre, Bedford Park SA

Open from: Thurs 13 May (opening night TBA). Until Sun 13 Jun 2021.
“The framework and aesthetic principles of my creative life developed early through intense and frequent contact with my aunt, the artist Dora Chapman. Quiet Conversations
Curated by India Flint
Until Sun 14 Mar 2021.
In March 2020 everything changed. We have had to embrace armchair wandering instead of travelling. These times have called for a different kind of gathering: for a daily gift that lifts the spirit and for handwork that transforms the old and tired into something fresh and just a bit magical.
Initiated by India Flint, this exhibition shares tea-towels, humble utilitarian domestic textiles, that have been the companions of their stitchers during 'the Great Pause'. Created by a group linked by a common thread around a virtual village well, using supplies found by rummaging in the ragbag (or the back of the closet), in the tea-towel drawer or in the linen-press. Making do with the resources found in hearts and home.
Fabrik: Lobethal Woollen Mill, 1 Lobethal Road, Lobethal SA

Paper Cut
Printmakers from around Australia, including South Australian's Vivonne Thwaites, Barbara Hanrahan, Anne Newmarch, Ruth Tuck, Jude Adams & Mary Moore (amongst many, many others)
Round 1: Until Sat 10 April 2021.
Round 2: Sat 17 April until Sat 5 June 2021.
Paper Cut is an exhibition of works on paper from UWA’s Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art. The ‘cut’ of the title refers both to technique and to the incisive cut of much of the subject-matter. It is a mass showing that reveals the strength of particular areas of the collection, and the remarkable breadth of content. Paper Cut includes many works on public display for the first time, with groupings of art extending up the walls of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.
Many of the framed works reflect the legacy of the Cruthers family, remaining as they were hung and appreciated within the homes of Lady Sheila and Sir James Cruthers. True to the original intent of the political posters, whereby they were produced to be plastered across public spaces and in the streets, many of the works are displayed without frames. This allows visitors to see the richness of many of the surfaces and closely observe the quality of the materials. Multiples of prints and prints in various states are also exhibited to reveal the process by which artists develop the work to the final state.
