Calling all mentors and mentees! We are now recruiting for our 2021-2022 Peer Mentorship Program. This program connects first-year students transitioning into university to mentors in their upper years of study. The UPA hopes to empower both the mentor and the mentee and establish lasting connections in the psychology community.

Peer mentors are in their second year or higher of their academic program and interested in helping first-years navigate the university transition and field of psychology. Mentors should also have one year of experience at the UofA and be committed! Sign up to be a mentor this Fall 2021!

MESSAGE FROM THE SISP 2020-2021 COMMITTEE

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 McGill Summer Institute for School Psychology that will take place from May 25th - May 28th 2021. For the fifth year, we invite school psychologists, mental health professionals, and students from Quebec and beyond to come share knowledge, reconnect with colleagues, and exchange ideas. Given the current situation, we are pleased to announce that for the first time ever SISP will be held completely virtually this year.

The conference program will include six guest speakers (English and French) who will provide workshops with applied subjects and practices across various domains of school psychology. As mandated by professional orders, our applied workshops will contribute to the continuing education of attendees. This conference is an excellent opportunity for mental health professionals and students alike to foster new relationships and promote professional development.

Additionally, we are pleased to once again invite students to share their research at the oral and poster sessions being held during the conference. All abstracts undergo a blind review process and are evaluated by McGill professors in the field of school psychology. Further, all accepted abstracts are automatically considered for our yearly poster award.

From the members of the Organizing Committee of McGill University, and the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, we wish you a superb virtual conference experience!

Hello!

The FentaNIL Project is recruiting executive members for the upcoming 2021/22 school year!

The FentaNIL Project is a student-run organization that aims to mitigate the impact of the opioid crisis. Members of this group are involved in training campus and community members on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, as well as educating the public about the synthetic opioid crisis, how it’s impacting our communities, and the efficacy of harm reduction strategies.

Want to join our executive team? Please send a 200-300 word election platform abstract to fentanil@ualberta.ca by Friday, March 12th at 11:59 pm MST, introducing yourself, why you would be a good fit for the executive team, and what you hope to achieve in the upcoming year if appointed. To be eligible for a position, you must be signed up to your mailing list, which you can do through our website. Anonymous online voting will occur the week of March 15th. We encourage all interested students to apply! You do not need to have prior experience with our group or with harm reduction initiatives.

CVR-VISTA Vision Science Summer School (CVRSS), 2021
YORK UNIVERSITY, TORONTO, CANADA

The Centre for Vision Research https://cvr.yorku.ca/ at York University https://www.yorku.ca/ in Toronto, Canada offers a one-week undergraduate summer school on vision science in cooperation with the Vision: Science to Applications (VISTA) vista.info.yorku.ca  initiative.

In the past, the CVRSS has been an expenses-paid, in-person event but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2021 version will be wholly virtual (while maintaining the intimate and interactive nature of the experience). This year's program will be held July 5th - 9th, 2021.

The program includes talks by CVR faculty members on current research topics in vision science, as well as (virtual) hands-on experience in CVR laboratories. The curriculum reflects the wide range of research areas at CVR, which includes research on human visual perception, computer vision, machine learning, visual neuroscience, digital media, immersive environments, and visual disorders.

The program accepts undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in scientific research. It is intended mainly for students who are planning to apply to graduate school in the fall of 2021/2022 (for entry in fall 2022/2023), and who are interested in investigating vision science as an area of research. Citizens of all countries are eligible. The application deadline is March 26th, 2021.

Application instructions are available on the CVR summer school website (https://www.yorku.ca/cvr/summer-school/ ).  We are accepting applications from now until March 26th, 2021. Applicants will be notified of decisions by mid-April. We expect to accept between 30 and 40 students.

For further information please see the attached flyer, the website https://www.yorku.ca/cvr/summer-school/ or write to cvrss@yorku.ca.
