CLOK events

Confirming what we suspected from last week, the Sneaton / Pickering "not the JK" events at Easter are definitely not going to go ahead on 3rd/4th April. However, we are lining up our first post-lockdown event during the Easter school holiday period to be at Kiplin Hall on Thursday 8th April (UK government restrictions allowing). More details to follow - watch this space!

New Virtual Running Routes at Tees Barrage

We are pleased to announce two new Virtual Running Routes at Tees Barrage in Stockton. VRRs are like Virtual Orienteering Courses using the MapRun app except they also show your route on the map in the app, so are ideal for novices, but also can provide a great challenge for experienced orienteers - especially on a fun area like Tees Barrage! For an introduction to VRRs see here, and for details of the Tees Barrage VRRs see here. Many thanks to Roy Bradley & Vicky Fawcett (from Stockton Council) for designing the course, and to Paul Taylor for updating the map.

Orienteering Coaching Qualification

Would you be interested in obtaining a Level 2 coaching qualification that would enable you to leading coaching sessions to help CLOK members to improve their orienteering skills? The club is paying for Dave Riches to attend a coaching course, organised by the Army, that will lead to a UKCC Level 2 coaching certificate, after which he’ll lead CLOK coaching sessions for us and, of course, all those new members who will join as a result of the Club Development Programme! We think this will make a great contribution to the future success of our club and to members' enjoyment of their sport. We'd like to hear from any other CLOK members who'd be interested in going on this course and then be willing to help with coaching for club members. Please contact Caroline Mackenzie (07973-870529 or email) and she'll be happy to give you more information, including the time commitment involved. This course usually runs only once each year, so please contact Caroline ASAP if you might be interested.

Safeguarding and Protecting children

British Orienteering are running a series of free online safeguarding and protecting children courses. These are useful for anyone working with juniors for example CLOK junior coaching or the North East Junior Squad. There are still places available for the course running on Wednesday 24th March. For more details and registration, see here.

Lockdown orienteering
