Campaign News

The Friends is now a registered charity

We have received confirmation from the Charity Commission that we have been recognised as a Charity. This status will help us progress the campaign and with fundraising - many donors prefer to deal with registered charities only.

We are now registered in England as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Number CE024993 and  Registered Charity Number 1193643.

Study Report

The final report for the Viability Study and Economic Impact Assessment has been issued to us. As it contains some commercially sensitive information we won't be publishing the full report, but there will be a summary available shortly.

The report describes a potential future for Streatham Hill Theatre which needs us to continue to work with Lambeth, GLA and the Theatres Trust, and to engage with the current owners and operators. We are exploring potential partners, funders and operators for the future too.

It's great to have your support, and support from across the local community and the creative community, from professional advisors, and much wider afield.

What's Next?

We have kicked off some next steps in the planned campaign:

  • Form a team to plan how we could open and operate the building
  • Restart fundraising, including seeking grants from bodies such as the National Lottery, to help pay for access and operation
If you can help with these now, or in any other area of the campaign, please come along to our next campaign meeting (see below), or drop us an email. Thanks!

We have a slot at our Campaign Meetings for a short presentation or performance. On the list for future meetings we have:
  • The architecture of Streatham Hill Theatre, by Armeet Panesar, Date TBA
Do you have something you would like to share with the Friends - perhaps a talk or reading? Or would you be willing to co-ordinate a programme of such work from volunteers? If so, please come along to our next campaign meeting (see above), or drop us an email. Thanks!

#SaveStreathamHillTheatre

We continue to raise awareness about this beautiful Grade II listed building, seeking support and potential users/operators.
Please keep spreading the word to your friends, family, colleagues.

Lambeth Ward Boundaries

You might have spotted a consultation on new council ward boundaries for Streatham, but did you see that Streatham Hill could lose its community identity as a result, with Streatham Hill Theatre no longer at its heart?

Do take a look and have your say on the proposed changes.

Census 2021

We've heard from the local Census co-ordinator as he recognises we are a well-known group in the area! He's like us to pass on the message that you will soon be getting a letter from the Census team asking you to respond. The information gathered helps plan future public services.

The Campaign So Far

Find out why we think the building is worth re-opening, who supports us and what you can do to help in this detailed campaign overview.
Watch Now

Theatre has Historical Significance

The Statement of Historical Significance by leading international architecture firm Aedas brings together over 100 pictures and drawings to show that the 1920’s building is a potentially well preserved time capsule, but that the clock is ticking (actually the one in the foyer has stopped!).
Read Now

Do you have any historic material relating to the theatre? Photos, programmes, posters etc? If you have, would you be willing to email over photos, scans, articles etc., or donate them to our growing archive? Please drop us an email.

Can you help?

Our Spacehive Crowdfunder was extremely successful, with pledges from hundreds of supporters and we thank everyone who contributed! Unfortunately, when Spacehive processed the pledges, some could not be collected. We still have a small shortfall of around £400. As we move forward with the Viability Study we are asking if you can spare a little more? And any extra will help the next stages of the campaign.

Thank You

Thanks to you, our wonderful supporters, the campaign to return this building to public use continues.
