The Tourism Transitions Programme has been established by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as part of the tourism recovery package.
It is delivered through Qualmark and Tourism New Zealand as the Tourism Advisory Support Service and Digital Capability programmes and they have just reopened for registrations.
With the operating environment over the next 12 - 18 months uncertain these free support programmes are structured to help tourism operators navigate a sustainable way forward through the COVID-19 crisis with a focus on business continuity.

Destination Management Plan well underway
Last month, Kylie Ruwhiu-Karawana and Brad Kirner from TRC Tourism held consultation sessions with iwi, our elected members, tourism sectors operators, infrastructure providers, community and business groups, and community leaders. These sessions provided an opportunity for input into the development a Destination Management plan - a key deliverable of the Kāpiti District Economic Development Strategy 2020–23.
TRC Tourism have now completed the consultation process and are currently working on the draft plan which will be ready for initial review at the end of this month, with the final plan to be delivered at the end of April.
Once the Destination Management Plan for Kāpiti has been delivered we will then work closely with our RTO (Regional Tourism Organisation) WellingtonNZ, to include the outcomes in the Regional Destination Management Plan that is currently under development.

Help secure Kāpiti’s future
Here on the Kāpiti Coast, our district has seen significant change over the last few decades, and will continue to do so in the coming years. Some changes we can foresee and others are less certain. What we do know, however, is that we must plan ahead for change together as a community to ensure Kāpiti continues to be a great place to live.
This is where our long-term plan comes in. It’s a big deal because it lays out the mahi we intend to do over the next 20 years. It details the planned activities, services and projects, how much things are likely to cost and how we plan to pay for them. This plan has an impact on everyone living on the Kāpiti Coast. Formal consultation on our draft Long-term Plan 2021–41 will run April 7 – May 10.
