2020-2021

MSS Prep School Weekly Newsletter

March 7, 2021

We have been working with San Mateo Office of Education to make sure that our teachers and coaches are able to be vaccinated.  We are slowly working through our list, but we are making great progress.  It is nice to know that when we return to school, our teachers will be safe! As a school, we will remain closed through the end of this school year and we are hopeful the 2021-2022 school year will be in person and hands-on.

Progress Reports
Friday was the end of the first session in this semester and our teachers are working on narratives which speak to you about your student's progress. Please watch your email for your student's progress report for this session. We are so proud of the work the teachers and students have done!

Attendance
Parents, this year has been a very rough season for everyone, but we are now seeing a great deal of hope as our communities are being vaccinated.  Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to keep you students coming to class on time and helping them stay engaged and participating in class.  For all you do, however, we are still having excessive absences and tardiness in some of our classes.  Every time a student is late or has an unexcused absence from class, it creates a distraction for the class and impacts your child's learning.  Please continue to help us encourage your kids to be on time and present, and as always, please let us know how we can help.

Monthly Parent Meeting
Check your email for your calendar invite for the Monthly MSS Parent Meeting, held on Zoom on the first Friday of every month. This will be the only monthly meeting time, we are retiring the Tuesday evening option.

A-G Certification
We are in the process of submitting classes for A-G certification. This will ensure that all of our classes are accepted by the UC and CSU systems as our students start applying to college.

WASC Certification
Our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) dates have been confirmed and our WASC visit is scheduled for November 29-December -1, 2021.  The WASC accreditation assures that MSS is a viable educational program and a trustworthy institution for student learning.

March Birthdays
Join us in wishing two of our students a Happy Birthday this month:  Celebrate Big Pioneer & Delphine!

Spring Break - Independent Project
3/29/2021 - 4/2/2021
During spring break, the kids get to explore something of interest to them during this week -- another independent project.  The topics are their choice and how they present it to their classes will also be unique to them.  It would be great if the kids can start thinking about their ideas in the next few weeks.
For your planning, the current academic calendar is available on our MSS website.

Coastside Gives
The countdown to Coastside Gives has begun.  Main Street Scholars will once again participate in the Coast's largest non-profit fundraiser, set to be held on May 6, 2021.  We will share more details as they become available.

Student Joke of the Week
Q: Why are dogs like phones?
A: Because they have collar IDs
