Viewpoints: Cameras on, cameras off?

Join ETS for the first event in their new series: Viewpoints. “Cameras on, cameras off” explores the issue of whether students, staff, faculty and others should be required to have their cameras on during synchronous sessions, or have the option to turn them off and remain unseen. Learn more

Town Halls postponed

The University expects that within the next two weeks, the province will issue a new directive for the post-secondary sector with information that will impact our planned direction for Winter Term 1 (September 2021). The Dean's Office has therefore decided to postpone both Town Halls to a later date. Once the Ministry’s announcement has been made available to us, we will have a better sense of how the Faculty’s work will unfold in September.

Daylight savings reminder

This is a reminder that daylight saving time begins at 2:00 a.m. PST on Sunday, March 14. This means that we will be setting our clocks forward to 3:00 a.m. at that point.

Call for Applications–Chris Spencer Professorship in Dyslexia

We are pleased to announce an internal call for applications for the Chris Spencer Foundation Professorship in Dyslexia. This professorship was established to make significant contributions to the creation and mobilization of resources available to teachers and families of children with dyslexia and related learning disabilities. All full-time, tenured, UBC Faculty of Education faculty members at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, and who are located on the Vancouver campus, are eligible to apply. Learn more

Last Call for Association of BC Deans of Education (ABCDE) Awards Nominations

The ABCDE Committee would like to put out a call for nominations for two awards: the Teacher Educator Award and the Education Advocate Award​. The deadline to submit nominations is Monday, March 15, 2021. Learn more

Art Education and the Limitations of White Liberalism

Kraehe, University of Arizona, in her research seminar entitled Art Education and the Limitations of White Liberalism, will explore the relationship between the arts and white liberalism in education. Through the Lens: Anti-Blackness after 2020–Invisibility, hyper-visibility, & mental health

The workshop, facilitated by registered clinical counsellor Sacha Médiné, will explore the experience of Blackness, and the toll of anti-Blackness, in the aftermath of events in 2020. Participants will be invited to explore the impacts of and responses of Black folks to these dynamics, and to engage with their own participation in, or resistance to, ongoing anti-Blackness in its new context. Learn more
