New Directions!
We are back in Honduras where there are more restrictions do to the pandemic than in the States. One big limiting factor affecting me, Matt, specifically is that I appear to have "Long COVID". Which means that while the acute viral infection ended, I still have lingering effects such as heavy fatigue that can drop me without notice and there has been a struggle breathing when doing even light physical work. Praise the Lord that these symptoms seem to finally be resolving, but my sense of smell has still not returned. This actually worked to my advantage this week as a possum apparently crawled up in the roof space and died... Ellen let me know just how unbelievably stinky this was!!
Our big news is that after more than 10 years of cross cultural ministry we are returning to the States for Home Assignment. We were not planning that for this year and any discussion about leaving Honduras was in the context of being a couple years away. But God's timing is always best. There are so many factors that have gone into this decision, including the needs of our family (more time with Ellen's mom and being more available to help out with our grandchildren... especially since #6 is on the way!), the fact that we still cannot do our normal ministry due to the pandemic restrictions, and the fact that after serving over 10 years in Honduras we are weary. This has been a hard decision to make, one with much prayer and counsel. We are in ongoing discussions with the President of Equip, our home pastor in Maryland, and two mission counselors who serve with Barnabas who are all helping us navigate this transition.
We are staying with Equip and will continue to need both your prayer and financial support. We are excited about how the Lord is leading. The current plan is to return Stateside to co-lead the next Community Health Evangelism course at Equip headquarters in May. Stay tuned as we share more in our upcoming newsletters.
