Hej everyone!

It seems it’s time for a new newsletter. A lot has happened since October. A few projects that were a long time in the making have come to fruition.

But first and foremost, I will be presenting On Psychoanalysis and Violence: Contemporary Lacanian Perspectives with co-editor Manya Steinkoler at the American Psychological Association - Division of Psychoanalysis (APA Division 39) spring meeting, which was rescheduled from last year and is to be held over the next two upcoming weekends: March 12-14 and 19-21. Now that the conference is happening online, people from all over the world can attend, and instead of having to choose which panels to attend, we'll have access to recordings of all the discussions. I must say, this is a conference not to miss, as it is changing the face of psychoanalysis as we speak. For example, Franz Fanon's daughter Mireille is one of the keynote speakers. See you there!

Next, my book Scansion in Psychoanalysis and Art: The Cut in Creation was published by Routledge in November!

“Scansion in Psychoanalysis and Art examines a strain of artists spanning more than a century, beginning at the dawn of photography and culminating in the discussion of contemporary artists, to illustrate various psychoanalytic concepts by examining artists working in a multitude of media. Drawing on the theories of Sigmund Freud, who applied psychoanalytic methods to art and literature to decipher the meaning and intention of the creator, as well as Jacques Lacan’s dissemination of scansion as a powerful disruption of narrative, the book explores examples of the long and rich relationship between psychoanalysis and the fine arts. Whilst guiding readers through the different artists and their artforms – from painting and music to poetry, collage, photography, film, performance art, technology and body modification – Sinclair interrogates scansion as a generative process often inherent of the act of creation itself.”

The book features the work of such artists as William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Robert Frank, Jonas Mekas, Leonora Carrington, Max Ernst, Breyer P-Orridge, Stelarc, Charlotte Rodgers, Katelan Foisy, Val Denham. Elijah Burgher, Joe Coleman, Peter Beard, Hannah Höch, Kurt Schwitters, Suzanne Duchamp, Marcel Duchamp, Tristan Tzara, Emmy Hennings, Hugo Ball, Eadweard Muybridge, Francis Bacon, Pierre Molinier, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Unika Zürn, Hans Bellmer, Ovartaci, Crass, TOPY, Andy Warhol, Taylor Mead, Luigi Russolo, Conrad Rooks, Joel-Peter Witkin, Charles Baudelaire, Edgar Allan Poe, Sophie Taeuber, Hans (Jean) Arp, Kenneth Anger, People Like Us, Nurse With Wound, Coil, COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ana Mendieta, Yoko Ono, Susan Hiller… and more.

The first book featuring my collages as illustrations has also been released! The Mega Golem: A Womanual for All Times and Spaces (Trapart Books, 2021).

“An anthology volume celebrating a decade of occult mischief by the “Mega Golem.” Originally conceived by Swedish author Carl Abrahamsson as a “quantum quilt” project that artists and magicians can contribute to, the Mega Golem now has a life of its own. Whether its parts and abilities are known and tangible or secret and ethereal, the impact of its presence is undeniable. It weaves a special kind of magic for the 21st century, in and through art and talismanic approaches. Is this being invisible? Indivisible? Invincible? Intangible? Whose desires and dreams are incorporated in the sinews and cells of this benign mutation of our inertly causal culture? The Mega Golem is the poetic transcendence of expected transgression, and as such a psychosexual embrace from behind the front-lines. Free for all, and dreams made flesh! This first Mega Golem book collects ideas, theories and artworks that all constitute its first incarnation. This book is therefore nothing less than a Magical Womanual for any and all who are willing to believe wholeheartedly in the disbelief of psychic prestidigitation and its many emotional pitfalls. With contributions by Carl Abrahamsson, Vanessa Sinclair, Kadmus Herschel, Gabriel McCaughry and others.”

And a brand new book was JUST released: Outsider Inpatient: Reflections on Art as Therapy

“Outsider Inpatient is an anthology of perspectives about the value of art and creativity within psychiatric environments. It specifically shines the light on experiences at Lillhagen Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, where inpatients were allowed to paint and decorate the entire walls of long corridors in the basements of the hospital. Also included are valuable thoughts about creativity in general from clinicians, art historians, psychoanalysts, and artists. What constitutes “outsider” art? How can creativity be used in the treatment of (in)patients? Why do certain artists create the way they do, and how does it affect them? Outsider Inpatient is an informative study about a topic that has created as much controversy and criticism as it has support and adherents, in environments as diverse as clinical psychiatry and psychology, art theory, social sciences, psychoanalysis and philosophy. This book has been produced in cooperation with the Center for Critical Heritage Studies and the University of Gothenburg, and contains texts by Elisabeth Punzi, Per Magnus Johansson, Johannes Nordholm, Inez Edström, Christian Munthe, Carl Abrahamsson, Vanessa Sinclair, and Val Denham.”

Additionally I am included in Carl’s latest book Genesis P-Orridge: Temporarily Eternal (Photographs 1986-2018).

“Temporarily Eternal is an emotional-visual summing up of a creative friendship between Swedish author Carl Abrahamsson and British artist Genesis P-Orridge (1950-2020) that lasted for more than three decades, and which was filled with musical projects, films, books, writings, conversations, travel, and a great deal of magic. This book both is and is not a companion to Genesis Breyer P-Orridge: Sacred Intent – Conversations with Carl Abrahamsson 1986-2019. It is, in the sense that the present book also focuses on shared moments during the same period of time. It is not, in the sense that it’s not an intellectual trip into concepts and thoughts expressed via language, in conversation. Instead, this book contains photographic portraits: some are staged, considered, thought through, and some are pure snapshots of auspicious and fleeting moments. And some are definitely somewhere in between: juggling immediate form with desired content.”

I have also been a part of a few musical collaborations!

Most recently “Follow My Voice” with Swedish sonic superstar Per Åhlund was released.

I also released the albums “Pathways of the Heart (for Jess)” with music by Carl Abrahamsson and “Future Moon” with Jillian Street Lucas + Damages.

Note: musical releases are available digitally via Bandcamp and as limited edition CDs via Trapart Editions.

Recently, I was interviewed for Pragmagick Podcast with my Glitchraft Third Mind partner Katelan Foisy.

I was also included in fellow psychoanalyst Julie Futrell’s series Artist + Analyst.

I think that’s all for now!
