The boy's baseball team made history with their first game of the first GSAA baseball team, and this is connected to some history from the 1930's! When GSAA alumna Marie Stratton heard that the first game would be played at Luby Park, she shared the following from a book titled History of Gem State Academy that was published by the Alumni Association in 1963 (Mr. Boynton was principal from 1931-1938, and the park described is presumably Luby Park, where there is still a rose garden): W.S. Boynton, while principal also served as a member of the Caldwell City Council. This position proved very helpful in securing sugar for the cannery, thereby making more work available to the academy students. As a councilman Elder Boynton helped with the planning of the rose gardens and the golf course in Caldwell. He also helped in improving the city park. The academy boys had an important part in this project, as they made the park benches in their woodwork class. As a result of these industries the enrollment reached 130. So there you have it! Current history connected to our past!
