ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Under One Sky has developed this training to inform and engage individuals on cultural differences. The workshop provides a safe and welcoming space to ask questions, participate in experiential learning opportunities, and learn how we can provide and support more inclusive work-spaces. Each workshop will be hosted by a facilitator at Under One Sky, Alyse Duffney. Alyse always keeps the workshops engaging and interactive with a blend of instruction, exercises, and group discussion. Each workshop is limited to 15 people and will be presented via Zoom. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Over the course of the 4-hour workshop, you will touch on:
- Indigenous Groups in NB
- Symbols, ceremony, spirituality
- Understanding culture, power, privilege
- History of Indigenous-colonial relations
- Identity, stereotypes & myths, prejudice and racism
- Cultural humility and how to be an Ally
- Handling sensitive topics, health and wellness
- How organizations can improve cultural diversity practices
About the Instructor (Alyse Duffney)
As a proud Mik'maq woman, Alyse’s work is devoted to the revitalization of Aboriginal Leadership in the Atlantic Canadian region. She graduated from the University of New Brunswick’s Renaissance College Faculty with a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Leadership studies and is now the Communications and Outreach Coordinator at Under One Sky. Three fun facts: She is a certified Wilderness First Aid Responder and KAIROS Blanket Exercise Facilitator, and was awarded “world’s best mom” by her son.
