Celebrating Women in Percussion
March 2021

Hello and welcome to the latest from Tapspace. March is Women's History Month, and we'd like to carve out this space to celebrate women in percussion! There are many influential women who have blazed trails in the field of percussion – Keiko Abe, Evelyn Glennie, Elaine Jones, Patti Niemi, to name a few. However, most of us know the world of percussion has leaned largely male. Thankfully that's been slowly changing.

Today, when you consider the most innovative performers, composers, and educators in our community, those names are now increasingly women! We have a long way to go until there's true equal representation of women in the field of percussion, but we want to encourage this trend and wholeheartedly celebrate the influential women making the world of percussion a richer place.

Take a look at the music from female composers in the Tapspace catalog: Andrea Venet, Julia Gaines, She-e Wu, Erin Duke, Sarah Santa Cruz, Lisa Ann Marsh, and Rika Fujii. Others are on the way, and we welcome and encourage  more works from women in percussion.

Tapspace Talks Drumset Tones

We sat down (virtually, of course) with Dr. Chad Floyd to chat about recording his solo drumset piece Hexyl. He discusses drum/stick/head selection, tuning, and more that will help you dial in those tones.

  • "Basic Economics – Having no knowledge of economics, I recently saught to remedy this during the pandemic. Thomas Sowell gives a common sense guide to fundamental economic principles with very clear and simple writing." - Tyler, Wearer of Many Hats
  • "My favorite way to brew coffee is with a french press. This double-walled french press ensures my morning go juice doesn’t cool too quickly, a common problem with the more traditional glass models." - Jim, Co-founder
