R&R Nipper State Championships

Sorrento did well and congratulations to our newest State Champions Jackson and Brandon who won the U13’s title.

Congratulations to Tahlia and Beth for picking up Bronze in the Under 13’s as well as Martha and Lucy for winning Silver in the Under 11s.

R&R is a time consuming sport that requires dedication from all competitors so to all of our athletes Abbey, Alex, Jackson, Brandon, Beth, Tahlia, Sophie, Alyssa Lucy and Martha well done on the year you have had and the progress you have made. I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Our success here and in other age groups comes down to the amazing coaches we have, led by the irreplaceable Theresa Gartlan whose passion and drive helps forge these kids and not just in being athletes. We are lucky in R&R where our older athletes come back and teach the younger ones thank you to Annalise, Bridget, Sophie, Liv, Niamh, Macca, Tilly and Daz.

Woodside Nippers

This is the absolute best time of the year down at Sorrento with so much going on you may struggle to get a breath in but we wouldn’t
have it any other way!

Firstly congratulations to the 106 Sorrento Little Nippers that competed at the Little Nippers States on Sunday. It was amazing to see so much green on our beach again.Thank you to the Age Managers, Assistant Ag Managers, Referees, Officials, our wonderful parents and water safety that made the carnival such a brilliant success and an enjoyable experience for our nippers.

When we are fortunate enough to host a carnival-like this it’s a huge workload that our club takes on. I’d like to thank all the helpers in set up, pack up and running of the event,  to be honest, so many of our families were just brilliant over the whole weekend.

Thanks so much to these families on the weekend without your assistance in lots of different areas this event doesn’t happen or go smoothly apologies if I’ve missed any.

Burchy’s, Belly’s, Ridley’s, Geneff’s, Bunford’s, Thomson’s, Tasker’s, Chin’s, Morris, Pawles, Beagleys , Wools Cobb, Doherty, Duffy, Overton, Paccanaro, Reeves, Povey, Howells Booth and McLennan along with our IRB and JetSki crews who kept our kids safe all carnival, your all superstars and Sorrento is very lucky to have you all as part of the team!

This weekend is not going to be any quieter in a really unusual couple of seasons our Nippers finally will make their way to Scarborough beach to compete in the Little Nippers State Titles.

You have all done a mountain of work over the season to get to this point, on behalf of myself and the club we would like to wish each and everyone of you wearing the mighty mighty Sorrento cap this weekend the best of luck!

Remembering all we ask of you when competing for Sorrento is to have a crack, do your own personal best and always remember to show good sportsmanship!

I look forward to seeing a lot of you on Wednesday night at the player's tea (please make sure you book to barmanager@sorrentoslsc.org.au) to avoid disappointment) the clubs very ownWorld Champ and Ironman coach Micheal Booth going to give some of his tips for competing in events and pre-event preparation. I’m really looking forward to it

We only have a few more weeks left of this season let’s enjoy each and every one of them!

Let’s Go Mighty Mighty Sorrento!

Great results today by the Sorrento Senior and Youth Athletes today at the Trigg Island Carnival on the weekend. The Youth team won multiple events and multiple placings whilst the Open members finished the day with multiple wins & top 6 placings. The March Past team also took the win in their competition. Well done to the Boaties and the Junior R&R teams on the weekend. Amazing results by all!

It looks like the club is on the right track with the State Championships just around the corner. It was a fantastic effort today in great conditions. Thanks to our coaches Claire Rafferty Michael Booth & Lisa Thomson who are preparing our athletes to peak at the right time of the season. Youth News

Competition
Team Green had a fantastic weekend of competition in both Surf League and at the Senior Carnival - it was fantastic to be able to field a second youth team at Surf League and we are really looking forward to building on this for next season when the current U15 group will be able to compete in the ski races as U17s.

You can see details of all of the results from the weekend here http://slswa.racetec.online/

What has impressed most is the breadth of engagement our youth have across the club; for example, on Sunday Sorrento youth members officiated at both Little Nipper and R & R carnivals; helped provide IRB support to both the Senior Carnival at Trigg and Little Nipper States at Sorrento and at the junior R & R States, youth were out in force supporting their junior teammates. In fact, Bridget, Sophie, Niamh, Olivia, Tilly, and Mackenzie have given many hours of their time throughout the season to coach and encourage the junior team over and above the dedication, they have shown to their own training.

Well done everyone and thank you for all your efforts.

If you want to compete in board rescue and haven't yet completed your entry form please do this as soon as possible - the Youth board rescue races are at Sorrento early in the program so a great opportunity to have a go at one of the most enjoyable State Championship events when you would usually be on the beach training anyway!

Sunday at Sorrento
We had 18 youth on the beach at Sorrento on Sunday, and were just South of the second groyne as there was a Little Nippers carnival on the main beach. It was great to see all youth complete the swim between the third and second groynes.  We then paired up for a board relay with emphasis on their entry and exit from the water
A team board rescue was next with a 2 person patient carry up the beach.  We then worked on signals with everybody in the water and following the hand signals given from the beach. And last was a long slow group paddle towards the MAC Club and back to finish up about 10:30.

And it was great to see that the boards were all taken on the long trip back to the wash down area and put away with a minimum of fuss.

A big thanks to all the youth who came down to enjoy the perfect conditions and to Matt and Hal for running the session while the other Age Managers were at Trigg
