The Brigstow Institute brings researchers from different disciplines together with a range of partners across the city and beyond to experiment in new ways of living and being.

Seedcorn Studentships 2021

Application deadline: 12 noon Friday 9th April 2021.

Brigstow is offering University of Bristol postgraduate research students and students on MRes programmes a paid opportunity to work with one of our experimental partnerships as they carry out research on an interdisciplinary and co-produced research project.

The Studentships

There are a mix of disciplines and skills requested, from poetry to robotics, from creative methods to data analysis, from law to sound. There are seven studentships available, each serving different projects.

Posed as a woman: 1x studentship (80 hours)
This research asks how we can talk about trans lives by examining a historical character, with a particular focus on how living outside the law shaped the meaning and experience of Jenny Moore/Robert Coulthard.
Building Instruments: 1x studentship (80 hours)
This project will explore how noise pollution in the city can be mapped, its effects on people's wellbeing and how communities can be built up around a series of artistic and sonic interventions tackling this issue.
Prehension Blooms: 2 x studentships (40 hours each)
This project explores the lived realities of older and younger people experiencing loneliness and isolation. It aims to co-design soft, telepresence robots that allow their operators to experience creative and social spaces remotely.
AD4Games: 1 x studentship (25 hours)
This project investigates how AD can improve game accessibility by working with professional audio describers, game developers, and visually impaired gamers.
