Hello and welcome to Thursday, Miami.
Yesterday we lead things off by tackling Miami’s bid for World Cup greatness. We subsequently heard from several New Tropic readers who shared their thoughts on our fair city hosting the biggest event in soccer. Here’s what Christina S. had to say about whether or not we’re ready to step up to the pitch:
“Like the Olympics, World Cups have actually been the excuse and opportunity to update local infrastructure in the cities where they have taken place. There’s no reason for our Global City not to do so as well especially now that we have some first-class leaders at the helm of our City and County.
“And — frankly — I would love to see the Red Devils (best team in the world) win right here in Miami!”
Thanks for weighing in, Christina. While The New Tropic can’t speak on the prowess of Belgium’s national team, we feel more than comfortable commenting on the excellence of the country’s musical exports.
Meanwhile, Stan F. struck a similar tone:
“Hosting the World Cup in Miami would be a total dream, but our current infrastructure makes this the worst idea ever! Silver lining.... this is a great opportunity to turn that around over the next 5 years in preparation for the influx of the international community that will be joining us for the tournament. Hopefully our local politicians can figure that out, which I have total faith in, of course.”
In any case, while we wait to learn if the World Cup is coming to Miami, here’s another sports-related development already taking place…
