Racialized Trauma & Mental Health
|
|
Research shows a link between racialized trauma and psychological distress among people of color, including increased rates of hypervigilance, depression, anxiety, PTSD, low self-worth, and somatic concerns. Moreover, the racism they experience can impact their career, educational goals, personal relationships, and even sense of safety.
Pine Rest's Dr. Charmeka Newton discusses the steps that might be taken in the course of therapy to address the experience of race and racism, including:
- Empathic Listening
- Cultural Humility
- Being the Right Fit

Residential Detox & Short-Term Residential Program Expanding
|
|
This month, our medically-supervised detoxification and residential program moved into a newly renovated space co-located with our Retreat Clinic which specializes in Addiction Services. The new therapeutic environment has expanded capacity to serve 14 individuals.
Work is currently underway to renovate the home that formerly housed both programs. Once completed this summer, the detox program will stay in its new Retreat Inpatient space and the short-term Retreat Residential program will move into its refurbished space, expanding overall capacity to 26 individuals for the two programs.

Know anyone interested in helping us bring this expanded addiction treatment capacity to West Michigan?
