PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“We were studying the Latin roots gloria and terra.  Students had to use one in a sentence, and Shane wrote this... I just love it!!”  - Mrs. Stradiotto
“Laurel Hall is a glorious place.” - Shane

Greetings Laurel Hall Families!
Often, we forget our purpose. We get caught in the “stuff”. But the stuff is inconsequential to our mission. The mission is to carry on and make better, the lives of children. Come Monday, we will have reached a landmark point in our journey. Finally, we will have in-person learning for students in every grade. I want to personally thank the parents, teachers, and students for their perseverance, adaptability, patience and understanding. If this had been anything but a collective effort, we would have failed in our mission.
As COVID cases continue to decline, the county has lifted many restrictions. Please make note of the latest upcoming changes:
  1. Students in 7th and 8th grade will begin in-person learning on Monday, March 29th.
  2. It is expected that students in kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade will extend their school hours to 8:30-3:00 beginning Monday, April 12th.
While we are progressing, for us to continue to do so, we must be vigilant in adhering to COVID protocol. We stay masked, frequently wash our hands, and remain socially distant. It is also important to understand that Los Angeles County is still under a travel advisory. This is especially important as we begin the final week heading into spring break:
  • Los Angeles County residents should continue to avoid all non-essential travel and stay within 120 miles from their place of residence, unless they are traveling for essential purposes. Avoiding travel reduces the risk of virus transmission, including by reducing the risk that new sources of infection and, potentially, new virus strains that are now present in California.
  • All non-essential travelers from other states or countries are strongly discouraged from entering the County of Los Angeles and need to self-quarantine.
  • All persons arriving in or returning to the County of Los Angeles from other states or countries, must self-quarantine for 10 days after arrival, except as necessary to meet urgent critical healthcare staffing needs or to otherwise engage in emergency response.
The trend toward the positive brings certain victory each day and week. At home, my family has been keeping a “COVID” journal. We have written in it for 378 straight days. The first entries were words of confusion and fear. They were followed by disappointment and despair. Finally, they have been messages of Faith and Hope. Tonight, when I get home, I will write something positive. I will think about the assignment in the fourth-grade class that begins this weekly message. I will be inspired by the sentence written by Shane. Then, I will pen something about gloria and terra – the glory of this earth, and the children who will make it better.
Have a great weekend!
Jay

Message From Nurse Karin

A school nurse finds the pandemic has her missing her sweet 'frequent fliers' - The Boston Globe
Student Sick Policy:

  • A student needs to stay home from school and learn at home if they have a fever of 100.4 F or higher.
  • If they have any other symptoms (without fever) such as sore throat, cough, headache or stomach ache they should stay home until those symptoms are resolved.
  • The student needs to be fever free for 24 hours or more before returning to school.
  • If the student has a fever with cough and sore throat, it is highly recommended that the student get tested for COVID-19 and let the school know the result of that test.

                                                       OUTREACH COMMITTEE

In April, Hope of the Valley, a non-profit organization, will open and operate a 103- unit Tiny Home Community in Alexandria Park in North Hollywood for the homeless. This will be the largest Tiny Home Community in the state of California. (200 beds) Hope of the Valley recently opened its first Tiny Home Community on Chandler in North Hollywood.

The Outreach Committee of Emmanuel Lutheran Church is raising funds to sponsor one of the homes for $3,000. During Lent and through Easter, Outreach is asking for monetary gifts above and beyond regular church offerings to help reach our $3,000 goal. You can mail a check made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church with “Tiny Home” in the memo or make a donation online on our website at http://elcnoho.org and earmark your donation for Tiny Homes. Thank you for your participation in this worthwhile fundraiser!
