International Student "Speed Friending"

 

Next Tuesday! March 30 | 10am ET or 2pm ET | Online (Glimpse)


We will hold two more "Speed Friending" sessions on Tuesday, March 30, at 10:00AM and 2:00PM ET. Attendees will be virtually paired with other international students for short speed-friending sessions and will be provided optional conversation prompts, minigames, and more. Both sessions are open to all international students at Penn, so take some time during your Engagement Day to meet new friends and make new connections!

Penn Global Student Citizenship Award: Recognizing Exceptional Graduating International Students

All international students who graduated in December 2020 or will be graduating in Spring or Summer 2021 are invited to apply by April 4 for the Penn Global Student Citizenship Award. This award recognizes exceptional graduating international students who have demonstrated a commitment to bringing the world to Penn and promoting global citizenship at the University. One winner and one honorable mention will be selected for both the undergraduate and graduate student levels, along with several finalists. Start your application today!

#FlattenTheHate: Penn Stands Together to Stop Hate Against Asian and Asian American Communities 


ISSS condemns all acts of bias, discrimination, and violence against Asian and Asian-American communities in the United States. Please visit the homepage of Penn's Task Force on Support to Asian and Asian American Students and Scholars for resources to help you recognize and report incidents of racist hate or bias.

Additionally, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available 24/7 to support you – simply dial 215-898-7021 and press 1 to talk to a clinician 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are currently abroad and are unable to call CAPS for non-urgent concerns or to schedule an appointment, please email CAPS at: caps@pobox.upenn.edu.

Join Perry World House for the keynote conversation of the 2021 Global Shifts Colloquium, 'Locked Down: Global Mobility and COVID-19', with the UN Refugee Agency’s High Commissioner Filippo Grandi. High Commissioner Grandi will speak about how COVID-19 has impacted forcibly displaced persons across the globe, what the international community can do to mitigate these effects, and the lessons learned from the pandemic to ensure world leaders are better prepared for the next global crisis.

Penn's Off-Campus Housing Fair

Penn Off-Campus Housing Fair

As an international student, it might not be feasible for you to visit local landlords in person at the moment. Penn Off-Campus Services is hosting a virtual housing fair to help connect students with housing providers in the Philadelphia area and with Penn departments. By registering for this event, you will be sent a reminder for the day of the fair, so you can live chat with both Penn departments and local landlords.

US Tax Deadline Extended to 17 May

 
The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has announced that the US tax deadline has been extended from 15 April to 17 May 2021. ISSS has partnered with Sprintax to provide tax filing services to Penn's international student and scholar community. If you would like to learn more about your tax filing obligations, consider attending one of Sprintax's open tax webinars or contacting the Sprintax support team.

Penn Abroad: Virtual Internships Abroad

Priority deadline: April 1


The Virtual Internships Abroad (VIA) program provides self-directed and motivated Penn undergraduate students the opportunity to gain a fully funded professional work experience over the summer with a global employer, with the added convenience of working remotely. Students can choose the length of their internship and the number of hours they wish to work per week, all while gaining important skills through cross-cultural training and language learning.

Applications for VIA are now open! The priority deadline to apply is April 1, 2021.
