Accessible Materials Made Right (AMMR)

We’re pleased to announce that most of the AMMR courses on EduPaths have recently been updated! If you are someone who creates documents or presentations, AMMR is a great resource to help you understand why accessibility is important and how to improve the quality and accessibility of your content.
 
If you’ve never taken one of the courses, these updates provide the perfect opportunity to take AMMR for the first time. Even if you’ve gone through the courses in the past, now is a great time to brush up on your knowledge and practice with a review. State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH’s) are available to anyone participating in an updated course, including those who completed an older version in the past.

Assistive Technology (AT)

Our AT Leadership Group continues to meet regularly for Lunch & Learns. During this time, educators across the state share exciting new AT on a New and Noteworthy Padlet. Check it out to learn about new developments. If you have new ideas, share them there! The next AT Lunch & Learn is May 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EST. Complete the AT-Contacts Listserv sign-up form to receive Zoom information, updates, and access to a community of AT leaders.

Building Blocks to Autonomous Communication

Remote instruction provided an opportunity for educators to support augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users in environments beyond the traditional brick and mortar school buildings. Many educators and families worked together to support students with complex communication needs in their home and community environments. As we look to build more inclusive communities, AssistiveWare provides 12 Ways to Make Your Community More Communication Accessible. This brief article provides practical ideas for how educators can support AAC users beyond the classroom by raising community awareness and access to AAC. 

Delta Math

If your school is planning to provide additional support for students during this summer, Delta Math readiness screeners and intervention lessons can help teachers focus on high priority readiness standards for the next grade level and measure the impact of the additional summer support. Paper resources to screen and generate a course overview report are available for free. The online screening fee is $1 per student if your school district currently uses Delta Math online screeners and reports.

Intervention lessons, based on an 8-day intervention cycle, are free and available for each readiness standard. The Tier 2 Intervention Cycle Overview support video highlights how the lessons integrate the following evidence-based recommendations: explicit instruction that is systematic, visual representations of mathematical ideas, progress monitoring, and motivational strategies such as personal goal setting and visually charting daily progress.

The concrete-representational-abstract learning model is the foundation for both tier 2 and tier 3 lessons. The Tier 2 lessons encourage students to build the math using physical manipulatives in session 2, draw the actions of the physical manipulatives in session 3, and write their understanding using numbers and symbols in session 4.

Tier 3 lessons stretch the C-R-A learning progression so that more time is spent using manipulatives before transitioning to drawing the math and then using numbers and symbols to represent mental imagery.

Are you looking for ways to learn more about your students to create more meaningful instruction? You may want to try Learning Trajectories, a math assessment tool that helps educators learn more about how their students learn and where they are at mathematically. 
 
The Learning Trajectories Website has all of the Learning Trajectories organized by mathematical content and grade level content standards. There are also videos and activities to go along with the Learning Trajectories! It is free to sign up!
