The Fuan Nabilan Garden

The Fuan Nabilan garden is doing well, (thanks to Boroondara Central Lion for funding fencing and gate).

They have had good rain, so the corn and tapioca are doing well, but also the weeds. The food garden has been of great benefit in improving the diet of students and staff of Fuan Nabilan.
The photos show a) Joaquim, co-director of Fuan Nabilan weeding corn, and b)  students and staff of Fuan Nabilan weeding corn and tapioca crops.
Baucau College

Baucau Teacher's College has 2 scholarship students this year, Ercilio and Abrao. (Lidia our other student at Baucau Teachers College has graduated).
Principal Margie Beck has emailed to say that Ercilio's results for Semester 2 were very good, he received 1 high distinction(HD),
3 distinctions, and 1 credit.
Abrao has received 2 HD in his Lic.Ed. so far - Research Methods and Portuguese Language Education.
Margie wrote  'He is one of the most committed students I have ever worked with, so thank you again for your support for him.'
The Timorese Government is funding 800 more school teaching positions, so that is encouraging.
UBTL
(Universidade Boaventura
Timor-Leste)
UNTL (Universidade Timor Lorosae) graduate former student Gabriella with four of her students at UBTL (Universidade Boaventura Timor-Leste) who are going on a 1 month internment to Rotutu village to help with vegetable growing there.
Rotutu is a village in the mountains in Same subdistrict - a while ago FoS helped repair the primary school there, which was falling down. it was a big job because no vehicle access, and paths often impassable in wet season,  so hard to get building material there.

'The FoS & East Timor Hearts Fund, 18 May celebration helped raise funds for heart patients like Tomas Pinto, shown in the photo with his baby son Peter .
Following life-saving heart surgery in Australia, maths teacher Tomas  and his wife Barbara welcomed a new baby boy, named Peter Cosgrove Pinto, in honour of the Australian peacekeeping hero (who is now also a patron of ETHF in his role as Governor-General).
Update on the Hawthorn Craft Market

The monthly Hawthorn Craft Market in Hawthorn Arts Centre is starting again on Sunday mornings, after the long lockdown due to COVID restrictions .

Friends of Same has a regular stall here, selling Timorese woven articles (scarves, bags, etc also soap, spices  and salt from Timor, crafts from Nepal (maybe add a sentence about the Nepalese crafts - who makes them)  and of course delicious 'Friends of Same' coffee.

We are appealing for volunteers to help on the FoS stall occasionally and  for drivers to drop off and pick up the craft and coffee occasionally (pick up from Hawthorn Community House sometime during the week, drop off to the FoS stall at Hawthorn Arts Centre before the market starts, and pick it up when the stall closes).
Join us at the Makers Market, 1st Sunday of each month.
