A Message from the Primary Coordinator
Be on the lookout to learn and improve
At PCS, teachers encourage the students every day to learn new skills and improve their application of these skills to become the best versions of themselves.
As the saying goes ‘you need to practise what you preach’, I am happy to report that is exactly what the staff at PCS do regularly.

Primary GRIP Leadership Conference
On Friday 12 March the Primary Captains, Vice Captains and House Captains attended the GRIP Leadership conference held in Dubbo.
At the conference students engaged in a myriad of activities to learn to; recognise when it is their time to lead, time to take responsibility, time to give bright ideas to benefit the school and time to make a plan to bring the bright ideas to life.
PCS Captains were continually involved in speaking to other school captains and sharing bright ideas. PCS Captains did a fabulous job at stepping out of their comfort zone and getting up on stage in front of a packed auditorium to share their thoughts and plans. Sam was a champion on stage during the guess the celebrity game, Lexi was a star during the Australia's got talent game on stage, Jasmine went well in the quizz on stage, Alex spoke with confidence on stage sharing her bright idea plan, Russell fantastically played the pass it on game on stage, Rosemary, Maicey, Johann and Aimee asked interesting questions to presenters and worked fabulously with other schools. PCS Captains also lead the way in encouraging other schools to join in dancing and countdowns between activities.
Our PCS Captains represented the school with dignity and enthusiasm, great job everyone!

Outback (Bronze Silver) / Bronze Medallion
Over the last 5 weeks the SLR students participated in the Outback lifesaving course at Parkes pool.
Their program consisted of 5 key areas namely:
1. Swimming and survival skills (Entries, exits, use of PFD survival techniques and survival swimming strokes).
2. Resuscitation and Emergency care (DRSABCD and emergency care, resus and recovery and resus from an aquatic environment).
3. Emergency awareness and Search and Rescue (emergency recognition, search and rescue and defensive techniques).
4. Rescues (types of rescues and tows).
5. Spinal and initiatives (RLSSA initiative scenarios).
Every week they were taught a new key as well as the practical side of it. They were truly pushed to their limits as they had to complete 6 laps under 10 minutes for the Outback and 8 laps under 13 minutes for the Bronze. After doing their laps, they also had to swim 50 m to an unconscious person while getting rid of long sleeve clothing and tow them back. Each session at the pool averaged around 2 hours and 90% of the time it was in the pool. This was a very tough course to complete!
Congratulations to Bethany Moss, Mackenna McGuire, Edward Mayo for completing your Bronze Silver and to Tyler Boland, Logan Varcoe, Mary Sladden, Bailey Boland, Luke Magill, Brayden Varcoe and Wira Thomson who took it one step further and passed their Bronze Medallion with flying colours! Talesha Ellis also completed her online Bronze e-lifesavers course.
I am so impressed with everyone for putting so much effort in, for doing something out of your comfort zone and being able to complete it in the end with a smile on your face! You are all amazing!!

Name: Luke Hall-Matthews.
Class: Year 10.
Quote to live by: The best is yet to come.
Person who inspires you the most and why: I would say Jesus, but that sounds to much like a sunday school answer. I don’t really know one particular person that inspires me, not at least someone that isn’t also God. I’m not really inspired by people but by experiences.
What do you want to see happen at PCS in 2021: I want to see more of everything that is good about school. I’m honestly really excited by where we are as a school and all I want more of is what we have already got, great teachers and honest, smart students. Oh, and we could squeeze in a few more mullets… maybe Davey and Eric.
What is your definition of leadership: Leadership is seeing a problem that no one will touch and fixing it.
What is something that you want people to know about you: I’m a Jesus freak, D&T nerd and no I won’t get a haircut.
Favourite thing about school: Everything, good days and bad days, as long as I’m at school I’m growing character.

Name: Bella Gould
Class: Year 10
Quote to live by: “Sometimes we have to stop being scared and just go for it. Either it’ll work or it won’t. That’s life”.
Person who inspires you the most and why: A lot of people have inspired me in many different ways; my family, friends, teachers and even strangers sometimes. I think anyone can inspire you because we can all learn something from someone. All have taught me to go at life with a positive attitude and a smile on my face.
What do you want to see happen at PCS in 2021: I would love to see more activities at lunchtime and recess for high school and primary and for the whole school to connect and see we're all here for each other.
What is your definition of leadership: Leadership to me is setting an example, being friendly and being someone that anyone can feel comfortable coming to whether it's serious or just for general conversation. Leadership is not thinking your higher than others or more important, I see it as working with others and speaking for the ones who are too afraid to speak.
What is something that you want people to know about you: I love spending time with children and being around them. I love to chat and get to know anyone and also love to be there for others.
Favourite thing about school: My favourite thing is how welcoming the students and staff at the school are. I love that the teachers are dedicated to helping students and that they go the extra mile for students and have their best interests at heart. The school is friendly, positive and an all round enjoyable environment to be in.

The Best Thing about Working at PCS: Being able to provide the next generation with good Christian values to secure their future in faith as well as education.

Name: Peter Clifton.
Your Role at School: Aide, Groundsman and Bus Driver.
Favourite School Memory: Playing sport.
Fun Fact: I worked in England (tennis coaching) for 6 months, and took my wife and two children.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: The friendly staff and the students.
Favourite Quote/Verse: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23
