Hi <<First Name>>,

remote work is here to stay and I guess it’s something we can all already agree on.

So let's focus on fantastic opportunities that remote work creates.

Hospitality industry is very reactive when it comes to new trends. And that's a chance for those who can predict the near future (that's not so difficult to predict, tbh).

It's time to build 💪

1. Towns for remote workers

There are a few initiatives where the local municipality tries to attract remote workers.

Madeira Nomad Village is a good example. They partner with a local coworking space, a few accommodation partners and try to create a community.

Combine it with international PR and you can create a lot of buzz.

Any local municipality can copy this approach but I'm more curious to see some commercial initiatives that can take this to the next level.

Google created a whole brand around their amazing offices - chefs, laundry service, unlimited ice cream, slides… you name it.

How are the most progressive companies going to attract the best global talent in the next decade?

Think about exclusive private corporate towns/resorts in amazing lifestyle locations. Corporations will productive the digital nomad lifestyle to attract talent. Cybersecurity is going to be a thing.

Perhaps employees' OKRs can be transformed into free days in these resorts.

2. City getaways

Glamping has been growing enormously during the pandemic and I believe it won't stop very soon.

Cabins in nature near large cities are the gold mine considering high occupancy rates and how much you can charge per night. Once you figure out permits, you can slowly scale the operations by adding more units over time.

I would think about a whole experience and how to package it for companies. This might be one of the most wanted company's benefits in the future.

Remove the friction and sell it in a package with door-to-door transportation.

3. Coliving in lifestyle locations

When I started my coliving space in 2013, the value proposition was following:
  • workspace with a reliable internet
  • room to sleep
  • community
After visiting a few coliving websites in 2021 I noticed that not much has changed.

Airbnb commoditized apartment rentals but it's still not ideal for remote workers.

What could be that 6* coliving experience that makes people super productive?

You can look at the amenities like 1 gig internet, phone booths, iMacs to rent…

But I would think about it from a different perspective - how employers look at their employees enjoying the digital nomad lifestyle? What worries them? Cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, taxation, insurance, etc.

Another opportunity is the nomad families.

Everyone focuses on single remote workers but I see some hotels succeeding by focusing on middle-class families from large Western cities that want to spend a month or two working from abroad. Package it with a nursery, kinder garden, activities for kids...

These are a few opportunities I want to include in the blog post I'm working on.

What other opportunities in hospitality does remote work unlock?

Hit the reply button and let me know (I'd be happy to quote you in the blog post).
Cheers ✌️
Peter
