ISSUE NO. 6  MAR 21, 2021
Hi friends,

If you’re waking up this morning feeling weary and exhausted, you aren’t alone. This week was heavy. Even I, a professional writer, have been at a loss for words this week because of everything I’ve been reading in the news. Our Asian community is hurting—and here’s how you can help. Sexual assault allegations are rampant. And even though the Covid vaccines are becoming more accessible, it is still an awfully painful, uncertain time. It has been a triggering week for many of us who are tired of the constant poisonous misogyny, of the horrific news cycle. With that, I urge you all to do as I have: educate yourself on what’s happening, but also take a step back.

You, dear readers, deserve peace more than anything. Protect both your physical and mental space as well as you can. Do your part, but also rest. It is OK to step away from social media, to give your heart and brain a break from the overwhelming reality. It is OK to set aside a little time to find joy in something you love regardless of what is happening in the world. And if you want your voice to be heard, say what you need to say and do what you have to do. Then rest.

It is Spring now, after all. The long, dark winter is over. Flowers will begin blooming again. The trees will regain their lush leaves. The air will start to feel warmer, more welcoming. It won’t fix everything—it never does—but here, at least, is something to look forward to.

Megan

this week I loved...

1. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons anniversary update! So many great things are coming to the game this month!

2. This essay in The Cut about how Covid isolation has affected our social lives, and how it takes too much effort to hang out now.

3. This recipe for strawberry lemon bread. I made it and it came out delicious. Plus it photographs beautifully, which is obviously important.

4. This essay by Orion Carloto in Harper’s Bazaar UK about how she wants to change the narrative around sensitive women. I relate 100%.
