Sunday School Volunteers Needed

The Children’s Ministry Team is searching for volunteers to teach Sunday school one Sunday a month. The curriculum is preset and all materials are gathered for you prior to class. There is a short lesson, guided prayer, and an activity each Sunday. We do all the prep work so that you can focus on the children. There is a short online training and a background check is required. If this sounds like something you are called to please reach out to Connie at secretary@saintmargarets.com!

St. Margaret's Children & Youth Ministry presents our 1st Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt! We are opening are grounds for our entire Baton Rouge Community and surrounding areas to come out, and enjoy our beautiful newly landscaped garden behind the church. This area is perfect to catch the Easter Bunny and all of his treasures!

We will be searching for over 1000 Easter eggs, there will be games, story time, and a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny!

Please wear masks and feel free to bring chairs if you would like to sit. A small snack will be made available to the children.

Register below so that we can personalize your child's experience!

Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 21, from 4-5 PM

Contemplative prayer is prayer in the quiet that opens our minds and hearts to God, who is always right here with us in the present moment.  All we have to do is pause, remember and quietly express our intention to be present to God. God does the rest.

The format of our shared prayer will be periods of silence interspersed with some gentle meditative music.  We will conclude with a reading from scripture and an opportunity for sharing our thoughts and experiences with one another.
*ALL must wear masks and practice social distancing*
**MUST BRING PORTABLE CHAIR**

If you have questions or just want a little more information, please call
Molly Blackwell at 225-773-9659 or Joan Weber at 225-206-4802.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Elizabeth Perry, Program Manager for the Geaux Get Healthy Program, is seeking volunteers to assist with the program that is held at the Our Lady of the Lake North Clinic on Airline Highway.  There are various roles available.  Normally, the hospital requires a lengthy training course, however, Elizabeth has gotten special permission to shorten this for St. Margaret volunteers.  Here is the link to submit an application:

Confirmation Class at St Margaret's
The Book of Common Prayer says of confirmation that, “In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. Those baptized as adults are also expected to make a public affirmation of their faith” (BCP 412).

So the rite of confirmation is indelibly tied to baptism – not the completion of it but an affirmation of the vows made either on behalf of an infant or by an adult. While confirmation doesn’t make a person any more of a Christian, it is a rite of Christian commitment; an important part of living out one’s life in Christ.

St. Margaret’s offers confirmation preparation for adults and teenagers who desire to make a public commitment to Jesus Christ in front of the bishop. Any adult interested in confirmation should make this desire known to Fr Tommy by emailing him at rector@saintmargarets.com . If you have been confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church you will not need to be confirmed but will be received into the Episcopal Church by the bishop. We will be offering an adult confirmation class entitled “Episcopal 101.” The course includes basic instruction on Anglican church history, the Book of Common Prayer, the sacraments, Scripture, church doctrine, spirituality, and church polity.

Confirmation will take place when Bishop Thompson visits St Margaret’s on Sunday, September 28.

A Message From Fr Tommy To the Parents of Our Young Children:

Relax! God puts the wiggle in children; don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house. All are welcome! Sit toward the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what’s going on at the altar: they tire of seeing the backs of other’s heads. Quietly explain the parts of the service and actions of the priest, deacon, altar servers, musicians, etc..say the prayers and voice the responses. Children learn liturgical behaviors by copying you. If you must leave the service with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back. As Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” Remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to the Church, to God and to one another. Let them know that they are at home in this house of worship.

A Message From Fr Tommy To Our Parishioners:

The presence of children is a gift to the Church, and they are a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome our children and give their parents a smile of encouragement. If the wiggles and giggles of children distract you, you are invited to attend the 8 am service.
