Curious Children, Wise Elders: How Childhood and Elderhood, Together, are the Key to the Evolution of Human Cognition and Culture
|
|
Across many species an extended childhood and high caregiving investment appear to be correlated with intelligence and learning. Humans evolved an exceptionally long childhood and old age, and an unusually high level of caregiving, at the same time that they evolved distinctive capacities for cognition and culture. Dr. Gopnik will explain how these two developments are related, the relationship between children and grandparents, in particular, is key to human culture.
Tuesday, April 6th from 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Featured Speaker: Dr. Alison Gopnik, Professor of Psychology

NEW UC-WIDE FAMILY LEAVE POLICY
Open for Comment until Saturday, April 24th
We are thrilled that UCOP will be implementing the Pay for Family Leave and Bonding benefit! There are also concerns with eligibility, as the benefit would be tied to FMLA eligibility, which would exclude those that are part-time or with less than one year of service. We are encouraging staff and faculty that share this concern to submit a comment during the open comment period.
The proposed policy revisions are available to read online in both the redline and clean versions, and employees covered by this policy who wish to provide comments on the proposed revisions may submit them to Abby Norris (Abigail.Norris@ucop.edu).
Campus colleagues have put together some sample language, but also please feel free to modify or use your own words.
