Schools Have Reopened In Uganda!

Starting March 1st, 2021 most Schools reopened in Uganda for school-aged children, Vocational students, and University students across the country!

This is welcomed and exciting news for Mercy Joy Ministries as most of our students have returned to class under COVID-safety guidelines. The government will continue to return students to classes over the next several weeks barring any unforeseen issues with COVID. Mercy Joy Team in Uganda Perform Home Visits With Sponsored Children and Caretakers

November 2020-February 2021, Mercy Joy Ministries (MJM) Uganda staff performed home visits with sponsored students in various areas around Uganda to ensure that the vulnerable and disadvantaged children and youths were checked on to promote sustainable development and to be responsive to any urgent needs. The MJM staff also performed school selection and placement activities for students. Below are the details of activities conducted by the staff.

1. Identifying the most vulnerable and needy children/youths for program.
MJM Uganda staff went to various areas such as the Mityana District, Entebbe, Kampala, Namataba, and Mukono District where they identified youths and children from the ages of 5 years old to young adults who qualified for the program. Some children and youths have been sponsored, but there are still many children available seeking a loving and supportive sponsor to reach their dreams and goals.

2. Meeting with the family or caregivers of sponsored children/youths.
MJM visited family members and/or caregivers of sponsored children to discuss their roles and responsibilities, and to examine the child's home environment and conditions where they live. The primary purpose and aim was to ascertain whether the conditions in which the children and youth lived would enable them focus and perform well in School under our program.

3. Selection of Schools/Vocational Institutions for children/youths.
MJM met with families/students who were sponsored and provided details of the selected schools and institutions which they will attend. For students who class levels are pending reopening, MJM staff have identified and selected the schools where they will attend when they are officially reopened.

Sponsorship Profile: Meet Linnet Nabasumba!

Linnet is 7 year-old unsponsored child in the Mercy Joy Children Education Sponsorship Program who can light up a room with her infectious smile! Linnet lives in Mityana, Uganda and is in Primary-2 class (1st Grade).

Linnet is an orphan who lost her father when she was 3 years old. She now lives with her grandmother who is a peasant farmer. Please consider sponsoring Linnet and others like her so she can attend school to get an education and have an opportunity for a brighter future!

Communication Tool Launched!

We know how important letter writing is between a sponsor and a child. In fact, letter writing is the single most effective way to encourage your sponsored child. We have enhanced our sponsorship platform tools that will allow you to write, receive letters and share pictures electronically with your child! This is done in a safe, secure and monitored environment within your Mercy Joy Account Log-In.

After you log-in to your account, click on My Program Sponsorships under the My Profile menu. Click on New Message under your selected child sponsorship to send a message. All messages to and from sponsors will be reviewed by a MJM Admin before they are delivered. Please be sure not to include your phone number, address or email address in your letter.
