Here are Five Things to Know this month about riding in and around Rockland County.
- April 7th RBC Webinar: Safe Group Riding. The Rockland Bicycling Club is hosting a webinar on April 7th to cover what experienced cyclists need to know and what those new to group riding need to learn. Led by League of American Bicyclists certified instructor Jenni Laurita, this free webinar is open to RBC members and non-members. Please join us. Learn more and register here.
- Rides on! It's spring and it's time to get back on your bike.
The RBC Regular Ride kicks off on Sunday, April 11, leaving from David's Bagels in New City. Each week, there will be three ride levels cycling three different routes sharing a common start and end point. The routes are loops within loops so riders of different paces can cross paths along the way, and so groups can support each other. All groups and routes start and end at the same place, giving us an opportunity to socialize with old friends and to make new ones! We plan to run the same basic ride each Sunday. Sign up, show up, and spin up with the RBC!
Vuelta a Rockland series: This new ride will have a culinary focus, with interesting destinations to tempt your taste buds and quench your thirst. Each ride will end with social gatherings, food, and drink.
Giro di Rockland: Rockland is known for its hills. This new series features challenging climbs on bike‐friendly roads offering amazing vistas.
- Get Ready for the RBC Primavera: Sign up today for our first club-wide event on Saturday, May 1: the RBC Primavera! We are excited to partner with Playa Cancun in Stony Point, NY, for our ride start and finish. Meet fellow club mates from all level groups - A, B, and C. Get your spring legs under you by riding either the 30 mile or the 50 mile course, then enjoy an outdoor lunch by the Hudson River and share stories from the ride. Lunch includes an appetizer, entree, and non-alcoholic drinks. (Thinking of a marguerita? Just head over to the cash bar.) Guests are welcome to join us for lunch. Sign up for the ride on our website and we'll send you a PayPal link for the lunch.
- Keeping Your Drivetrain Clean and Healthy: Spring is here and you're ready to hit the road. But is your bike ready? Most people don't give the drivetrain much thought, they slop some oil on it now and again and away they go. But is that really all you need to do? Read RBC Member Steve Crowell's tips on how you can keep your drivertrain clean, lubed, and tuned.
- Save The Date (Saturday, April 24, at 1:00 pm) to Honor Jim Skelley: The owner of Nyack's oldest bike shop has retired, but Nyack Bike Outfitters Jim Skelley will return to the village on April 24 to accept a NYS Senate Resolution in his honor. Join the RBC and cyclists across the NY Metro area to say thanks to one of our favorite bike shop owners. Please check RocklandBicyclingClub.org for location and date/time confirmation one week prior to the event.
Safer Roads for All: US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg promises a bike friendly DOT at League of American Bicyclists National Bike Summit. "We've got this moment on our hands to modernize and revitalize our infrastructure; to lift up communities that have been left behind too often; to tackle the climate crisis; to deliver equity; and to support American small businesses and workers and families in a competing global economy. And I think biking and walking play really important roles in that vision.....We've seen in this past year, more and more Americans interested in riding a bike; so, we've got to make sure they now feel comfortable doing so on a regular basis."
