2021 and the promise of a great sailing season.

Sitka and Baranof Island have been a winter wonderland this year, and we took the opportunity to snowshoe up one of our local mountains a few days back. We were rewarded with this view of Kruzof Island, Mt. Edgecumbe, and Sitka Sound.  It's spring and the humpback whales have come back to the Sound with the annual return of the herring. Sailboat BOB enjoyed a day out in the islands, and we all enjoy tracking them through our contributions to the cool site Happy Whale
Most folks know we are bona fide National Park Nerds. We traded our sails for oars and jumped on a chance to raft the Grand Canyon with friends this February and got to spend 20 lovely days with 14 other Alaskan escapees. Tutus are highly encouraged and we did a bunch of side-canyon exploring. Truly a world treasure.
Monique has been cranking out parks and playgrounds this winter and has been really busy with big new one in Juneau. Without a doubt, it is the most spectacular state capitol and folks who come through often spend a couple of days exploring it after our trips. If you come, be sure to find this cute memorial to "Patsy" the former boat greeter and tourism ambassador.
It has been good to reconnect with loved ones and friends over the last couple of weeks. Sitka was really lucky and we were way ahead of the curve on vaccinations. It is sublimely wonderful to hug and share and feel human again. Monique had nice birthday party recently and it was so great to hang out with Blain's Mom and family for a weekend in Omaha.
An exciting eagle release happened at Sitka's Alaska Raptor Center. It is always a thrill to see these majestic birds fly back to the wild after the great care they receive. A larger photo album is on Facebook, and they are also featured on the National Geographic Channel.
For those interested in our Glacier Bay trips, we noticed there may be lodging available at the Park Lodge this year.

Still some incredible trips open this summer:

9 June    Fjords & Glaciers – Endicott Arm Wilderness (Juneau to Petersburg) 8Days/7Nights

4 Sept.   Alaska Islands & Hot Springs Adventure (Petersburg to Sitka) 8D/7N 2 cabins open

15 Sept.  Sitka to Ketchikan (Lots of sailing in the rain)  8D/7N
Sailboat BOB is freshly bottom-washed and ready to take us sailing this summer.
Please recycle. We ask you to pass this on to a friend or sibling deserving a great holiday.
