If ever there was a time to get politically engaged, it's now, and there's huge opportunity right here in Anacortes.
Up for grabs are the Mayor's seat, 4 city council seats (Miller, Moulton, McDougall, Young) and possibly Ryan Walters' seat should he be elected mayor (both Walters and Miller are in the running). There are also 3 port seats (Goodwin, Petrich, Pittis) and 2 school board seats (Hogge, Rieger) opening up.
The primary is on August 3rd, and the filing period is May 17-21.
Although TF&F, as a 501.c.3 org, cannot endorse or campaign for candidates, we believe it's critical to elect not only national and state leaders who reflect our values but perhaps even more importantly, community leaders who can help create the kind of change we so desperately need. The door is still open for us to take the opportunity the pandemic presents for radical, life-enhancing change, and we at TF&F know that such change needs to start at the grass-roots level. If you're looking to make a positive difference in these challenging times, running for office could be the answer.
The following positions are on the ballot in 2021:
Anacortes: mayor and council positions 4, 5, 6 and 7.
Hospital District: commissioner positions 2 and 3.
Cemetery District 2 (Anacortes): commissioner position 1.
Cemetery District 3 (Guemes Island): commissioner position 1.
Fidalgo Park and Recreation District: commissioner positions 3 and 5.
Fire Protection District 11 (Lake Erie): commissioner position 3.
Fire Protection District 17 (Guemes Island): commissioner positions 2 and 3.
Port of Anacortes: commissioner positions 1, 2 and 5.
Anacortes School Board: director positions 1 and 2.
