First, thank you to all who stepped up with pledges to gave us a sense of how much you would give towards the creation of the new Little Badger Mountain Preserve and Trail.

We said in our last newsletter that we had the possibility of a match if the grantor believed that we had a solid plan for and the capability of meeting our match request. You who pledged gave us the faith to believe that we could! We will submit our proposal this week and are buoyed to go forth with new vigor. Please keep the pledges — and donations — coming. The amount we have left to raise to create the Little Badger Preserve is $597,690 for land and $79,000 to design and build the trail. The final date for purchase is February 28, 2022.

We asked that you consider talking to businesses you patronize and your practitioners — lawyers, financial firms, medical — about the Little Badger effort. Your efforts are producing results. Small business and practitioners are responding: HAPO; Community 1st Bank; Therapy Associates Physical Therapy; Viewpoint Dentistry; Tri-City Coin and Vault; and Stellar Homes are the latest. Thank you! Look below for information on the Little Badger campaign and the logos of all the businesses and organizations that have contributed. We also have a copy of a Herald news article on the Little Badger effort that you can forward to your practitioners or find copies of the article in our literature boxes at trailheads.

Spring Trailwork Update

Spring Trail Work continues, Thurs-Sun, each week until April 18th.

After three weeks of work on the upper Canyon Trail the crews have completed about 250 feet plus a lot more that is waiting for gravel to be added.  Turns out spring, not only good for trail work, attracts lots of hikers! Hikers and gravel haulers don’t easily mix. It will be better as we get the trail widened, then we can get the gravel placed.

In the meantime, a major improvement is being made at the rock bench bend, as you can see here:

Please consider volunteering. The trails get a lot of use — they need your help! Contact trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org for more information.
Upcoming Trail Work Parties
Have you seen...? The work improving the Badger Mountain Canyon Trail has been hampered three times in the last two weeks by someone messing with the equipment: from shovels and gas cans stolen to the gravel hauler's controls being disassembled. It’s not often that you have the trails to yourself so if you see someone around the equipment, ask them … what are you doing?

Badger Mountain Challenge

The 10th Annual Badger Mountain Challenge, canceled last year, is taking place this year! March 26-27. All the events are full. Badger trails will be especially busy the morning of the 27th. Races will be organized in waves of 10 each, about 3 minutes apart. And guess what? They still can use volunteers! Visit badgermountainchallenge.com to sign up.

Also check out the BMC Facebook page — interviews with race organizers and sponsors, photos on the great clean up that was done on the race route, and awesome photos taken by Brandon Lott, founder of the BMC in 2010, who just completed this year's Iditarod.

Friends of Badger Annual Meeting

Spring has sprung! Spring Equinox (equal day and night) occurred March 21 and Pursh’s milk-vetch (aka woolypod milk-vetch) is popping out all over. Enjoy!
