The Source of Grief
March's theme for Soul Food Sundays is Source
Found grief hanging out at the sight of loss.
Saw grief hanging out at the site of love.
Looking like something that was once sweet, fermented now, sour.
Alcohol content rising,
intoxicated with grief
a country stumbles and never stops
dying or killing
Found love hanging out at the site of loss.
Saw love hanging out at the sight of grief.
Something sweet dancing in, out, and around the bitter
No flavors are erased, surprising pairs, but complimenting each other
Do you kiss your mother with that mouth
Do you scream
laugh
cry, gasp,
exhale, bite tongue
pray, eat
sing a eulogy, make the loss audible,
make the audible plausible,
healing when we thought it impossible
I'm cracked
open, smile leaking from lips,
nearby a child asks
Momma, where does grief come from?
And Momma says,
my dear, the same place as love.
