GAI DECIDES IT’S TIME TO HANG UP HER APRON

Many people will be sad to hear that the last Degustation Lunch will be on Easter Sunday.

Gai decided to close after Easter to harvest our bumper olive crop, but after 11 years catering for mostly full restaurants (PLUS making the product to stock the shelves of the Cellar Door) she is calling it a day.
WITH NO RESTAURANT,
WHAT’S NEXT FOR US?

The property is looking a picture with our delightful home overlooking the very full lake, lots of green pasture from the rains and an olive grove full of fruit. We love the place, but being well into our 70s we’ve decided to test the market and offer the 25 acre property (including the olive grove) for sale – by online auction which will run for 6 weeks commencing the week after Easter.

While the Cellar Door and Restaurant buildings themselves are included in the package, it doesn’t include the stock or the businesses.

Through all of this, the Cellar Door will continue to function until at least June, when hopefully the future will become clearer.

Andrew Blackman (First National, Mudgee) is our agent. He sold us the property 18 years ago

GREEN GARLIC OIL
GOOD EARLY GROWTH IN OUR 8th SEASON

Over 150 garlic nobs were planted in February and are coming along, though all this rain is a little worrying. Strange isn’t it, when you want it, it seems too far away. When you don’t, it rains and rains!!

Though young, the green stems (which are the centrepiece to the flavour of this wonderful product) are growing encouragingly. Things are on track for release of the first batches in June.

TO GET THE 1ST SUPPLIES OF THE EARLY BATCHES OF THE OIL IN JUNE, send an email (blacklea@activ8.net.au) to join the waiting list.

2015 Premium Cabernet Sauvignon (yet to be released through the Cellar Door)

Buy 6 bottles at $25 each.

2015 was a good year here at Blacklea for both of our red grapes. All of the Shiraz in that year went in to our two very successful tawny ports -the Chocolate Tawny and the remarkable Shiraz Liqueur.

The Cabernet Sauvignon was also very good. It has a strong blackcurrant mouthfeel but its particular strength is its “finish” – soft and smooth. The wine will keep for at least another 5 years

2016 Botrytis Semillon

Buy 6 bottles at $25 each.
Get an additional 6 bottles free!

Our Semillon grapes were left on the vine to dehydrate and build sweetness for an extra 4 months. Though the wine has a ‘lemony” hint, the principal flavour is ripe ‘apricot’ which slowly turns into passionfruit the longer you keep the wine in your mouth. Only 9% alc/vol!

Try serving the apricots in a small bowl with vanilla ice cream accompanied by a shot glass of the Botrytis Semillon to create a delicious sweet/sour treat.
