In our prayer and reflection during Lent, sin inevitably emerges as an important theme. It is such a pervasive reality in our own lives, both individual and communal, that we can’t do any kind of serious self-examination without acknowledging its influence. Moreover, we find at the core of Jesus’ message in the readings during Lent, God’s gracious forgiveness of our sins and our liberation from the powerful hold it has on our lives. As we follow Jesus on his journey to fulfill his mission on the Cross, we see him confront the sinful forces that oppose him as he proclaims the coming of God’s Kingdom, leading to his ultimate sacrifice, shedding his blood to free us from the bonds of sin and death. Without a lively awareness of sin and how deeply it sinks its roots into our lives, we can’t appreciate the gracious gift of God in freeing us from its hold.

All are welcome to join us for an opportunity to deepen your Lenten prayer and draw closer to Jesus Christ through an online Lenten retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. The retreat is being led by Fr. James Grummer, SJ, director of the Ignatian Spirituality Center at the Pontifical Gregorian University and superior of the Jesuit community at the Gregorian. Fr. CCP welcomes first Conrad N. Hilton Foundation
scholarship recipients

This spring's Diploma in Safeguarding at the Greg's Centre for Child Protection welcomed the first Conrad N. Hilton Foundation CCP Scholarship recipients: Sr Judith Vuvu Vianoza, from Angola and Sr. Janet Ebikaboere Deinanaghan, from Nigeria. The program began on February 10 and will conclude this June. This year the CCP has offered a Spanish Diploma in Safeguarding course for the first time, in addition to the English course. The Spanish sections have 17 students and the English has 16 students for a total 33 students. Teachers for these two programs come from three continents: Europe, Africa, America. Over 25 countries are represented by this student body.

"In the past I studied as a kindergarten teacher and finished with Portuguese. Now my Congregation has sent me to the CCP to be able to collaborate and help so many abused and voiceless children. I feel that this diploma is very important because it will enable me to acquire much needed knowledge on this serious topic, since we have very few who are formally educated in this back home."

"My Congregation, the Daughters of Charity, requested me to do the diploma course because I work in our school as a teacher and engage in parish apostolate with children so that I can have a better idea of what to do. I will return to Burkina Faso, where I live, to continue my work there for my current assignment".

Most Reverend Thomas Paprocki, Bishop of Springfield, IL and a Gregorian Alum, has written a book entitled Running for a Higher Purpose: Eight Steps to Spiritual and Physical Fitness. The book provides tips in spiritual and physical fitness from his experiences having run twenty-four marathons.

The fifth special Issue (2021) of the theological research review Ignaziana is now online.
It is a translation into English of a Japanese text by Fr. Pedro Arrupe when he was novice master in Hiroshima in 1949. These are the conferences that Fr. Arrupe offered to the novices during the month of Spiritual Exercises. The present translation done by Ms. Miki Lucia Suzuki-Hayashi corresponds to the first week of the Exercises and to the first volume of five, whose title is The Path to Christ. Reflections on the Spiritual Exercises.
