Issue No.7

Welcome back to another dose of information and updates from AtlantECO. We hope that you are all keeping well as we make our way into the second quarter of 2021 and soon closing M7 of the project.

As always, please help us spread the information that matters by sending us your contributions, the form is always open to collect responses and your input will be added in future issues.

I want to contribute to the next issue of the Echo

News from Mission Microbiomes

Postcard

Tara had a successful port call in Port Montt and the first samples from the mission are off the boat to make their way to the labs for processing. After a short stay, some equipment changed and new chief scientist Eric Pelletier, from Genoscope, on board they will make their way to sample the minimum oxygen zone off the coast of Chile.

WP6 scoping workshop: Strategies  to augment process descriptions in ocean biogeochemical models

9th&10th June 2021, 14:00-16:00 CEST | Online

The virtual workshop will be organized over two days as follows
Day 1: Setting the stage
(about 6 presentations of 20 mins each, tailored to explain the issue and the existing solutions, with 5-10 minutes to collect questions that will be addressed on the second day)
Topic 1: Physical-biogeochemical coupling in a Lagrangian context
Topic 2: Augmented physiological and biogeochemical processes
Day 2: Unleashing the potential of new observations
(a virtual interactive session, to produce a common mind-map of the best strategic steps)
Brainstorming on mechanisms, coupling processes and regional features.
How to best integrate existing and future data/knowledge in existing and future biogeochemical models?

This workshop is intended to bring together the different “flavours” of scientists working in AtlantECO, to contribute to a holistic view of numerical modelling applications, and to design improved strategies for the description of biogeochemical processes in numerical models.

The workshop is open to all WP6 participants and may include external contributors. Please send your proposals for a presentation, or a suggested subtopic to the WP6 leaders: marcello.vichi@uct.ac.za  & e.vansebille@uu.nl

Opportunities

Join the AtlantECO Communication Working Group

Deadline end March 2021

As part of the project processes, we are establishing a Working group to help with the development of communication messages and content. the group will assemble the required experts to cover all subject matters in AtlantECO and work closely with FTO, responsible for communication activities in the project.
The invitation is opened to all members of the AtlantECO team and we encourage Early Stage Researchers to participate.
The draft process, and expectations for the CWG, are presented in the document available on the Google drive. Once the list of experts, and timeline for completing each steps are defined, we will finalise the document.

Volunteer to be part of the CWG

New template

Tracking CDE activities

A new template to help track Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities is available for those who would like to use it. Note that all this information must be provided at time of reporting to the Commission, therefore a continuous tracking will help you in this task. The template is aligned to the reporting format, and will also be used to support the Dissemination and Exploitation Plans.
