Dear Friends, A PRIMER FOR HOLY WEEK. We once again approach an unusual Holy Week. Thankfully, we are not as restricted as we were last year, and we will have some in-person oppurtunities. I hope we can all approach Holy Week solemnly, with open hearts and spirits, and find some time each day for prayer and meditation. Some of our services will be different this year, and so I have write to you with a Holy Week Primer so that you may plan to have the best and most prayerful experience possible. Palm Sunday – This Sunday! We are planning to have our Blessing of the Palms and outdoor procession at 9:00 am, unless it is precipitating heavily. We encourage those participating in the Procession to wear red! Even if you do not wish to participate in the Procession, you are welcome to stop by and pick up palms. For any of our homebound parisihioners, or those with mobility challenges, please reach out to me if you would like to have palms dropped off to you. Online Sunday School will be at 9:30 am, and our 10:30 service will be by Zoom, with the Reading of the Passion. Tuesday in Holy Week (3/30) – In place of our usual Online Bible Study, at 7:00 pm we will have Online Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to join by the Zoom instructions below. Maundy Thursday (4/1) - On Maundy Thursday, we invite you to join us at 6:30 pm to take part in an Agape Meal by Zoom. As we cannot celebrate the Eucharist together in person, the Agape Meal provides another way for us to share a communal meal. Agape comes from the Greek term meaning “love” in the broadest sense. What should one eat as an Agape meal? A meatless meal is to be preferred, and appropriate foods include soup, cheese, olives, dried fruits, bread and wine or grape juice. As part of the Agape Meal, we will not consecrate Communion, but we will say a blessing over the wine and the bread and other foods. The liturgy will then continue at 7:00 pm on Zoom. Good Friday (4/2) – the church will be open from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm for The Three Hours, and all are welcome to come, watch, and pray (please note, masks must be worn, and distancing observed) Our Interim Choirmaster and Organist Jeremy Jelinek will also play an Organ Meditation from 12:30-1:00. Our regular Good Friday Liturgy will be by Zoom at 7:00 pm. As part of the service, we will venerate the cross. If you have a cross or crucifix at home, we invite you to have it with you to contemplate. Easter Vigil (4/3) – we will have the Easter Vigil by Zoom at 7:00 pm on Holy Saturday. We invite you to dim the lights in your home at the start of the service, and have a candle to light when we light the Paschal Candle. At the Alleluia, all are invited to turn on the lights to full brightness at home, and we encourage you to have an Easter Feast prepared after the service, even if that’s just a great dessert you gave up for Lent! Easter Sunday (4/4) – we will hold our 8:30 am Rite I spoken service in the Church! Please register to attend by 5:00 pm on Good Friday here: https://rsvp.church/r/pxId1RjW Masks must be worn, and distancing observed. Online Sunday School will be at 9:30 am, and our 10:30 am Service will be held by Zoom. You can start rehearsing the Alleluia Chorus by reviewing the sheet music here! If you have any questions along the way, or want an opportunity for conversation, prayer or Confession, please do not hesitate to reach out to Fr. Roy or me. I look forward to journeying to Jerusalem and to the cross together, for even if we are physically separated, we are always together. Faithfully, Elise |
