Jorge Choy-Gómez

LLILAS PhD candidate Jorge Choy-Gómez is author of the article "Power and Spectacle on Mexico's Southern Border," published last month by NACLA.















 
UT Latin Americanists Publish in Sociology Journal

Latin Americanist graduate students in the Department of Sociology have published their research in the Winter 2021 issue of Contexts: Sociology for the Public. See this issue for work by Maricarmen Hernández, Katherine Sobering, Katherine Jenson, and Alex Diamond. The research was funded in part by LLILAS and by the Lozano Long Professorship.


 







 

 
¡Enhorabuena!

Numerous LLILAS graduate students have received fellowships and other prestigious support for their outstanding research. Angela Tapia has been named Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow in Native American Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Ana Braconnier and Davi Pereira won Graduate School Dissertation Writing Fellowships. Ruth Matamoros won a Thematic Fellowship, and Alexandra Lamiña and Montserrat Valdivia received Continuing Fellowships. Fátima Valdivia received a Mellon Foundation Native American Scholars Initiative Predoctoral Fellowship for 2021–22 at UC San Diego.
